Position Summary:

This is a hybrid position. The Assistant Director for Student Leadership Programs facilitates involvement, engagement, and community development for medical students at the UNC School of Medicine. This position utilizes engagement data, assessment of graduate student needs, and best practices in graduate student support to inform a school-wide approach to increase graduate student sense of belonging and to support student interest groups. In collaboration with campus leaders, the assistant director also supports programming across the four UNC School of Medicine campuses (Central Cross-Regional, Wilmington, Charlotte, and Asheville) to host social events and programs, leadership development experiences, and involvement opportunities. This position reports to the Assistant Director for Medical Student Wellness.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent educational or instructional activities associated with the delivery and/or management of student support functions, will accept a relevant Bachelor's degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and at least 1 year of relevant experience in substitution.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

The successful candidate will have demonstrated a compassion for students, obvious leadership skills, excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, a willingness to initiate or take on new and challenging assignments, and a spirit of cooperation among colleagues and constituents. Ability to establish rapport and relate well to students, faculty, employers, and staff. Ability to effectively create and deliver presentations and workshops to large audiences. Proficiency in all aspects of computer operations essential including, strong working knowledge of MS Office Word and Excel. A high degree of accuracy and attention to detail with the ability to operate with minimal daily supervision required. Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to proactively identify issues and develop creative solutions. Strong problem-solving and interpersonal skills and the ability to drive innovative thinking. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

Experience in developing learning outcomes, and assessment plans and conducting assessment projects is preferred. Experience with the medical student academic lifecycle is preferred. Knowledge of student development theory, issues, and trends in the field. Working knowledge of best practices in Student Affairs preferred. Demonstrated ability in assessment of student services and use of assessment results to make changes that improve the delivery of services and programs for students. Expertise to develop, articulate and implement a vision for a student activities and leadership development area. Experience in assessment of educational outcomes in student activities and leadership preferred. Experience with assessing the risk associated with student events and programs. Experience working with and creating budgets.

Campus Security Authority Responsibilities:

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
