Purpose of Position

We seek a Computational Biologist that develops and uses mathematical and/or computational models to address fundamental questions in biology. We are broadly interested in candidates that strive to understand how molecular, cellular, and developmental mechanisms determine phenotype and/or how environmental factors impact these mechanisms. Research on organisms from any biological kingdom is welcome, including species of import for agricultural, ecological, or human health. Competitive candidates would have a strong record of accomplishment in Computational Biology irrespective of the model system. Computational approaches include, but are not limited to, machine learning, computer vision, systems biology, bioinformatics, biostatistics, mathematical biology, biophysics, dynamical systems, or multi-scale modeling. Applications from candidates whose work is entirely computational and from candidates who combine experimental and computational approaches are equally welcome.

The Department of Biology is an academic unit in the College of Arts & Sciences at the University of North Dakota. It serves about 500 undergraduate majors and 30 M.S. and Ph.D. students. In addition to teaching, our faculty members are involved in private, state, and federally funded research programs that span scales of organization from molecular biology to developmental biology and physiology to population and landscape ecology. The department's faculty members actively train undergraduate and graduate students in their research programs.
