Assistant Professor in Biostatistics

Location:
Lebanon, NH
Open Date:
Oct 17, 2024
Description:

The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth invites applications for tenure-track appointment at the rank of assistant professor as part of a targeted expansion of Dartmouth's biostatistics faculty. The Dartmouth Institute's mission is to improve public health, reduce disparities, and create high-performing health systems. This recruitment aims to expand Dartmouth's capability to perform research on innovative quantitative methods motivated by important problems in public health, health services, and health policy.

The successful candidate will pursue a vigorous and innovative research program on statistical methods or related methods and, over time, establish a track record of research via the application of these methods in public health, health services, or health policy. Applicants working in any relevant area of statistics, including causal inference, innovative clinical trials, machine learning, network analysis, and spatial statistics, with strong computing skills, are especially welcome. The successful applicant will be expected to lead a portfolio of independent, methods-advancing work, drawing on collaborative relationships with members of the Dartmouth community for health services or policy questions requiring innovative statistical design and analysis approaches. They will also be able to construct generalizable solutions that can be applied to future problems.  A generous start-up package, as well as access to state-of-the-art research facilities, will be provided.

Teaching and mentoring are a critical part of this role. The successful candidate will be provided with opportunities to teach and mentor through relevant PhD and master's programs (e.g., those connected to the Program in Quantitative Biomedical Sciences or The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice).

A primary faculty appointment will be provided at The Dartmouth Institute and a secondary appointment in the Department of Biomedical Data Science. A tertiary appointment in other Geisel Departments and/or adjunct appointments in Arts & Sciences and/or other professional schools (Thayer School of Engineering and Tuck School of Business) and affiliations with other Institutes or Centers will be considered upon request.

Qualifications:

Applicants for this position must have earned a PhD or equivalent degree in statistics, biostatistics, or a related discipline and indicate long-term success as an independent investigator, as evidenced by first-authored peer-reviewed publications or successful grant funding within the field.

Dartmouth is committed to academic excellence and encourages the open exchange of ideas within a culture of mutual respect. People with different backgrounds, life experiences, and perspectives make the Dartmouth community diverse, which enhances academic excellence. Applicants should address in their cover letter how their research, teaching, service, and/or life experiences prepare them to advance Dartmouth's commitment to diversity in service of academic excellence.
