Unit Mission Statement:

The mission of the College and the School of Arts & Sciences is to foster teaching, research, and public service as an integral part of education linked through programs to preserve, transmit, and expand.

Position Summary:

The Data Science Program at William & Mary, a public university of the Commonwealth of Virginia, seeks applications for a tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level in Data Science. Appointment will begin August 10, 2025.

We are interested in individuals with research and teaching expertise in natural language processing, data visualization, and/or generative AI, but exceptional applicants from other areas of Data Science will be considered.

Duties include research, teaching, and service to the University. The applicant is expected to establish and maintain a diverse, impactful, and externally funded research program in their area of expertise. Teaching expectation is 1 course per semester.

Successful applicants must possess the skills to teach compelling courses in Data Science and other lecture and seminar-style courses, and make substantive contributions to the mentorship of our Ph.D. students. Successful applicants will further demonstrate a strong potential to develop a robust, externally-funded research portfolio.

Required Qualifications:

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Data Science, Computer Science, Computational Sciences, or a related field at the time appointment begins (August 10, 2025).

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience in teaching and mentoring successful undergraduate and graduate research is preferred. Postdoctoral research experience is desirable.
