Unit Mission Statement:

The mission of the Film & Media Studies Program is to foster teaching, research, and public service as an integral part of education linked through programs designed to preserve, transmit, and expand knowledge.

Position Summary:

The Film & Media Studies Program at William & Mary, a public university of the Commonwealth of Virginia, seeks applications for a tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level in Film & Media Studies. Appointment will begin August 10, 2025. Finalist's tenure home and joint title will be assigned at the time of hire. We are interested in individuals with research and teaching expertise in race and representation in media (with an emphasis in film, TV, digital media, social media, or any combination thereof) as well as intersectional issues relevant to same.Duties include research, teaching, and service to the University. The applicant is expected to establish and maintain a vibrant research program that inspires a highly motivated undergraduate student body.Teaching expectation is 2 courses per semester. Successful applicants must possess the skills to teach compelling courses in race and representation in media as well as other lecture and seminar-style courses, including introductory film & media studies courses and film & media theory courses. They must also possess an ability and willingness to contribute to program governance.

Required Qualifications:

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in film & media studies or a related field at the time appointment begins (August 10, 2025).

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience in teaching and mentoring successful undergraduate research; a demonstrated ability to teach introductory film & media studies courses, and/or film & media theory courses. Evidence of scholarly achievement or demonstrated potential as a scholar.
