The Department of Mathematics invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Mathematics to begin service in August 2025. Applicants from all fields are welcome to apply, but the Department will be primarily interested in those applicants whose background and interests lie in statistics or data science. Winthrop University is a comprehensive public university located in Rock Hill, SC, with a tradition of preparing students for a variety of post-baccalaureate work. The Department of Mathematics provides two options for undergraduate degrees in mathematics, houses a new undergraduate degree program in data science, and provides theoretical and applied mathematics courses for a variety of audiences. The Department also has a history of strong support for undergraduate research. Responsibilities include:

1. Teaching a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses in statistics, data science, and/or mathematics, as well as courses in the general education program;

2. Advising and mentoring of mathematics majors, including participation in undergraduate research;

3. Participating in professional service activities for the department, college, and university;

4. Continuing productive research/scholarly activities; and

5. Contributing to the creative and intellectual atmosphere of the department and university.

Qualifications:
  1. PhD in Statistics or equivalent field (If the candidate is ABD at the start of employment, the appointment will be as a non-tenure track instructor)
  2. Evidence of teaching effectiveness and strong commitment to student learning and development, including interest in undergraduate research
  3. Evidence of an ability to maintain an active scholarship agenda
  4. Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion that will expand the representation of underserved populations in mathematics
  5. Instructional experience using technology such as computer algebra systems or statistical software packages
