The Assistant Program Director in Early Intervention (EI) supports the efforts of the Program Director to ensure the program adheres to regulations and requirements of licensing bodies and funding sources including staffing, documentation, and service provision. The Assistant Program Director maintains communication with Department of Public Health (DPH) Early Intervention Division staff as required by DPH. The Assistant Program Director provides direct supervision of staff that may include team leaders, supervisors, office manager and other staff as needed. The Assistant Program Director works directly with children and families as needed.

Your experience, knowledge and great skills will support the Early Intervention program with the following:

  • Assisting the Program Director in oversight and management of direct service work and productivity of staff on the EI team. While also Facilitating staff meetings, as needed.
  • Assisting the Program Director to ensure all staff are appropriately trained in DPH Operational Standards and relevant policies and procedures. While ensuring DPH timelines are followed with respect to referral to IFSP and transition activities.
  • Providing consultation, clinical supervision, education, and training to program staff.
  • Assisting the Program Director to ensure individuals served documentation is complete and meets DPH and Program standards including Individualized Family Treatment Plans, Service Sheets, Prior Written notices, and consents.
  • Providing direct and in-field supervision to EI staff. and also Maintaining Supervision notes according to agency policies and procedures. In addition to supporting staff and addressing staff performance issues, as needed.


What are we looking for in an Assistant Program Director?

Qualifications/Requirements.
  • Associate's, Bachelor's, or Master's Degree in Nursing and Registered Nurse in Massachusetts.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education, Special Education, Child Development, Child Studies, Education, or related field (with DPH permission based on percentage of EI team) OR Bachelor's Degree in any field with Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education required, and must have completed four (4), 3-credit college courses in infant/toddler development, family studies, or other related course work (to be approved by DPH prior to hire).
  • Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctoral Degree in Occupational Therapy required and a Licensed Occupational Therapist in Massachusetts.
  • Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctoral Degree in Physical Therapy required and a Licensed Physical Therapist in Massachusetts.
  • Master's Degree in Speech and Language Pathology required and a Licensed Speech and Language Pathologist in Massachusetts.
  • Master's Degree in Mental Health Counseling, Social Work with LCSW, Developmental Psychology, Educational Psychology or current license as a Marriage and Family Therapist.
  • At least 3 years supervisory or management experience, preferably in Early Intervention.
  • Valid Driver's License, safe driving record, and reliable vehicle required for all working hours.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of DPH Early Intervention Operational standards.
  • Understanding of child development.
  • Experience connecting families with needed supports and resources.
