The Development Office at Salem Hospital seeks an experienced, strategic, pro-active, results-oriented professional to serve as Associate Director of Donor Engagement and Communications. This role will report to the Managing Director of Philanthropy and collaborate with a rapidly growing development team to create and execute a strategic donor engagement program and communications plan.

The Associate Director will lead the department's stewardship program, in partnership with our Director of Special Events, and be responsible for strategic creation and execution of all event activities that are designed to deeply engage and recognize Salem Hospital donors in meaningful ways and with consistent messaging. In partnership with the Managing Director, the incumbent will also lead the development and creation of collateral materials inclduing but not limited to a donor newsletter, philanthroopy pamphlets and gift planning tool kits, case for support printables, and stewardship reports.

The primary responsibilities will be to lead the overall marketing/communications strategy for Salem Hospital donors to create consistent messaging and branding across all development communications. The new hire will create and execute new communications for internal and external audiences; evaluate, track, and measure results of communications activities across the department; provide day-to-day management of the communications calendar; coordinate with the Annual Giving and Direct Marketing Director; and drive cross-departmental collaboration on communications to ensure well-timed engagement with key audiences. The incumbent will be a key stakeholder in advancing fundraising success through a robust and proactive stewardship and donor recognition program which will be done in partnership with our Director of Special Events; enhance and expand a comprehensive and integrated effort that ensures donors experience high-quality communications.

This position will meaningfully engage the Hospital's donors by updating them on the impact of their support and connecting them with the beneficiaries of their generosity. The position requires a strong understanding of healthcare or higher education fundraising and the role communications and stewardship activities play in supporting the Development Office. It is also crucial for the candidate to have a growth and flexible mindset, able to work with deadlines, and is a collaborate team player that will harness a shared services model wherein some team members have cross functunoning roles with the Newton-Wellesley Hospital Development Office.

Compliance Responsibilities:
  • Understands and adheres to North Shore Medical Centers' (NSMC) compliance standards as they appear in Corporate Compliance Policies, Code of Conduct, and NSMC's Policies.
  • Professional, Supervisory and Managerial Staff, keep abreast of all pertinent federal, state and NSMC regulations, laws, and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.
  • Managerial Staff ensure that their staff are trained and evaluated on their knowledge of and adherence to compliance policies and procedures specific to their jobs.
Job Specific Responsibilities (e.g., clerical, patient care, food service, supervisory, etc.):
  • Manage gift acknowledgment process and donor stewardship and recognition program.
  • Prepare gift reports, proposals for grants, printables, and donor newsletter and other collateral materials.
  • Prepare events briefings, research material for collateral materials.
  • Maintain a robust inventory of written content and digital assets, including patient stories, program descriptions, photos, and videos.
  • Manage relationships with outside vendors and consultants (writers, designers, printers, videographers, etc.) to ensure timely, accurate, and creative solutions to communications needs.

Qualifications
Skills: (Specific learned activity gained through training, e.g., typing, presentation skills, computer skills; e.g., Excel; CPR, ACLS)
  • Required: Microsoft Suite
  • Preferred: Blackbaud
Experience:
  • Required: 3-5 years in Communications or Development
  • Preferred: 5+ years in Communications, Marketing or Development
Education/Degree Requirements:
  • Required: Bachelor's Degree
  • Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in Liberal Arts, Social Science, Communication, Public Relations or related field
