Job Summary
Aspire is a nonprofit organization of the Massachusetts General Hospital. We offer a variety of high-quality therapeutic programs and services that focus on helping children with high cognitive autism spectrum disorders and related profiles develop increased self-awareness, social competency, and stress management skills. The Teen Group Specialist is a part-time position working with Aspire's Explorations and/or Outings Program for teens aged 14-19. The Teen Group Specialist will be responsible for supporting a group of approximately 15 teenagers during community outings and structured program activities as well as facilitating their participation within the group. Tasks of the role include, supporting program activities; implementing interventions, supports, and strategies for program participants; maintaining accurate timekeeping and record keeping; and complying with program policies and procedures. Staff responsibilities also include support teens in conversations/small talk, monitor and count teens in the community, monitor overall safety in the community, support teens in paying/budgeting, complete daily notes, and setup/cleanup of the space. At times the Group Specialist would be with a small group of 3-4 teens in the community. The Teen Group Specialist reports directly to an onsite Explorations Assistant Program Manager and Program Manager. The assistant group leader must be willing to work closely as part of a group and collaboratively with others. Prior experience working with adolescents on the autism spectrum is preferred but not required.

Qualifications

1. Attend all scheduled group sessions. Staff will be provided with planning and supervision time before and after scheduled group sessions. Contact your Program Manager by no later than 7:00 am the day of the group if you are sick and unable to work.

2. In collaboration with the participant and key stakeholders, design clear and appropriate goals for participants. Periodically review goals, assess progress, and design interventions to foster further growth.

3. Ensure that all structured behavior support plans are consistent with Aspire policies and procedures as well as Aspire's theoretical and therapeutic models.

4. Work collaboratively with area agencies that are involved with Aspire to ensure Aspire's on-going positive relationships with the community including School Personnel, MGH Staff, Transportation Personnel, Dept of Public Health, Office of Child Care Services, Community Programs, etc.

5. Communicate significant participant behavioral concerns with Program Manager immediately.

6. Model a positive, centered, and non-judgmental communication style with both participants and staff.

7. Collaborate with staff to develop and implement therapeutic interventions, e.g. social stories, behavior support plans, etc. Work with staff in the planning and presentation of such lessons.

8. Maintain rules of confidentiality in the community and when communicating with parents and staff.

EDUCATION:

Bachelor's Degree - required

Field of Study : psychology, social work, occupational therapy, speech and language pathology, and other mental health related fields

Master's Degree - preferred

Field of Study : psychology, social work, occupational therapy, speech and language pathology, and other mental health related fields

WORK EXPERIENCE:

Prior experience working with neurodivergent children and/or adolescents - preferred
