Unit Mission Statement:

The mission of the William & Mary School of Education is to transform students, schools, and communities through professional preparation, collaborative partnerships, and the translation of research into action.

The Flanagan Counselor Education Clinic is located within the William & Mary School of Education and is designed for the clinical training of Counselor Education students. The Flanagan Counselor Education Clinic also provides services to the local Williamsburg Community along with various satellite campuses in the Tidewater Area. The Flanagan Counselor Education Clinic is the home for the New Horizons Family Counseling Center (NHFCC), New Leaf Clinic (NLC) operation, and other community-based partnership initiatives.

Position Summary:

This position will provide clinical and administrative supervision for the Flanagan Counselor Education Clinic. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide clinical supervision to counselor education students serving as interns or graduate assistants in the Clinic.
  • Lead clinic-based professional development activities for students in the Counselor Education program.
  • Assist with day-to-day clinic operations such as creating the clinic schedule, managing incoming referrals, ensuring the front office runs effectively, being on-site to support students, etc.

  • Must maintain valid and active licensure in Virginia as a Professional Counselor and/or a Marriage and Family Therapist once received for the remainder of employment in the position.

Required Qualifications:

  • An earned master's degree in counseling from a Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP)-accredited university.
  • Current licensure in Virginia as a Professional Counselor and/or a Marriage and Family Therapist or licensure obtained within 6 months from the date of hire;
  • Training and experience in Play Therapy or a willingness to obtain training and experience in Play Therapy.
  • A clear and well-articulated counselor identity;
  • Experience with supervising counselors-in-training;
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion; and,
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, organization, and negotiation skills.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Clinical experience (typically 2-4 years) post-licensure.
  • Approved (or eligible) to provide licensure supervision in Virginia.
  • Certifications related to play therapy/play therapy supervision.

Advertised Pay Range:

Up to $65,000 commensurate with relevant experience
