Job Description Summary
This position will assist in the management of a clinical trial and responsibilities in specific research area. Coordinate the screening of participants, subject enrollment, collection and storage of biological samples and related study documents, and collection of clinical data. Assist with Institutional Review Board (IRB) filings and inquiries, and assist in the preparation of manuscripts, grant progress reports, and research related presentations. Works closely with the Principal Investigator and study team to identify problems and develop solutions. Implement approved changes to procedures as needed and monitor results. Responsible for study coordination for investigator-initiated studies and patient-oriented clinical research projects.

Job Description

The School of Nursing is seeking a clinical research coordinator to work full time on a nutrition research study in the area of childhood obesity. The aim of this study is to assess if energy balance behaviors (diet, physical activity, sleep) can modify behavioral and genetic predispositions to childhood obesity. The applicant is expected to coordinate all aspects of this research protocol.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, preparing, organizing, and maintaining protocol materials and regulatory (IRB) paperwork, completing progress and data safety monitoring reports, recruiting and screening study participants, conducting taste preference assessments, preparing and administering study meals, administering computerized assessments to children, height and weight measurements, coordinating body composition assessments at CHOP, training and overseeing student workers, overseeing and assisting with data management and data entry, and management and ordering of study supplies. The position is ideal for an individual who is interested in growing and developing a research coordinator career or for a motivated college graduate who is interested in pursuing graduate studies in nutrition, public health, psychology, medical school, or related fields.

Job Responsibilities

1) Subject Recruitment, Screening, & Consent/Assent:

  • Coordinate recruitment outreach and advertising.
  • Assist with recruitment, eligibility screening, height and weight measurements, and informed consent and assent of children, ages 5-7, and their mothers as potential subjects into the research study.
  • Conduct taste preference assessments and computerized behavioral assessments with children.


2) Organize and Conduct Study Visits:
  • Set up, schedule, and complete tasks associated with all screening and study visits.
  • Prepare and administer a video recorded experimental meal in the laboratory to children, assess hunger and fullness ratings, and engage with children during playtime.
  • Ensure high-quality recordings of meal and accelerometer data and assist with meal coding.
  • Set up and schedule dietary recalls and two body composition assessment visits at CHOP; deliver study material to CHOP laboratories.
  • Explain study procedures to parents and ensure on-time completion of all assessments. ▪ Coordinate and track subject payments.
  • Assists with tracking subjects, maintaining contact with subjects, and arranging for 1-year follow-up appointments.


3) Quality Management of Research Project:
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the study protocol and contribute to the planning and implementation of the research study.
  • Act as liaisons with internal and external constituents to ensure effective communication and coordination of study activities.
  • Work in collaboration with the study team in planning, coordinating, and conducting study visits and assessments.
  • Train study personnel (e.g., student workers) on study-related tasks and oversee quality of their work.


4) Regulatory Compliance:
  • Prepare and maintain regulatory paperwork for the Penn and CHOP Institutional Review Boards (IRB) including adverse event reporting.
  • Assist with preparation of progress reports and data safety monitoring reports to IRB and funding agency.


5) Data Management:
  • Maintain up-to-date tracking of subject and study-related data.
  • Ensure timely double data entry and monitor quality of data entry and management.
  • Ensure timely coding of video recorded data and storing of all human subject data on protected servers.


6) Perform additional duties as assigned

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science and 1 to 2 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
