Summary
DLA Piper's Atlanta office seeks an associate with 2-3 years of construction law experience to join its Real Estate Group. The candidate will provide transactional and litigation support on all aspects of construction and development work, including: drafting and negotiation of design, construction and development agreements in various industry sectors; advising clients with respect to management of claims and disputes concerning change orders, extra work claims, delay, and construction defects; assist with construction adversarial matters (arbitration and litigation). Familiarity with industry form agreements (AIA and similar forms) is required. Prior experience with litigation or arbitration matters is preferred but not required. We seek candidates with immediately transferable skills and strong academic backgrounds from nationally recognized law schools as well as prior experience in a large or mid-sized law firm.
Job Responsibilities
- Draft and negotiate design, construction, and development agreements across various industry sectors.
- Draft and negotiate EPC contracts on large infrastructure and energy projects.
- Provide strategic advice to client regarding claims management, change orders, extra work claims, delay and construction defect claim.
- Work with construction teams on litigation and arbitration matters, providing support in all aspects of this dispute, including drafting of pleadings, discovery, motions, preparation and taking of depositions, mediations, and arbitration hearings / trials.

Experience
- Minimum 2 years of experience working on construction contracting and related development experience.

Physical Demands, Work Environment, and Other Requirements Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Pay Transparency The firm's expected hiring range for this position is $235,000-$365,000 per year depending on the candidate's geographic market location. The compensation offered for employment will also be dependent on other factors including the candidate's experience, skills, educational and professional background, and overall qualifications. We offer a comprehensive package of benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance, and 401(k).
