As a Hispanic Serving Institution, HCC seeks a Coordinator of Instructional Design who is committed to the pursuit of equity through the use of culturally responsive and universally accessible pedagogies. This position is responsible for exploring, identifying, developing, and supporting course design solutions that promote student learning in all modalities They will work collaboratively with other members of the Instructional Design and Technology team, faculty, staff and academic leadership to plan, develop, and deliver educationally effective, highly engaging, and innovative instructional materials for on campus, blended and online classes. This position will work under the supervision of the Director of Planning, Curriculum and Assessment and in collaboration with the college's Center For Excellence in developing and executing professional development for faculty with the goal of moving innovation in academic instruction forward. The Coordinator of Instructional Design will be a flexible thinker, able to determine and apply sound pedagogical strategies.

  1. Foster faculty adoption of innovative pedagogical strategies that promote student learning.
  2. Provide in-person, virtual and hybrid pedagogical and instructional design consultation and expertise to faculty and staff in support of face-to-face, online and blended environments.
  3. Provide direct, in-person support to faculty and staff in the Learning Collaborative.
  4. Work directly with faculty in designing fully accessible/inclusive academic materials that meet the principles of Universal Design.
  5. Work collaboratively with faculty to analyze instructional outcomes, develop learning objectives, structure learning activities and assessments, and deliver high-quality learning experiences that leverage learning science and academic technologies.
  6. Design, create and host innovative faculty and staff tutorials, workshops, training, instructional materials, video tutorials and support documentation on various educational strategies and technologies.
  7. Create and administer learning academies/institutes with a focus on improving student learning through the use of pedagogical innovation.
  8. Work collaboratively with the Coordinator of Instructional Technology/LMS administrator in exploring, identifying, developing and supporting instructional technology solutions for a wide range of learning modalities, including face-to-face, online, hybrid and other advanced technologies.
  9. Work collaboratively with faculty and staff; the Associate Director of Assessment; and the General Education Assessment Committee to create effective assessments, analyze resulting student learning outcomes data, and determine related actions.
  10. Collaborate with the library to introduce campus stakeholders to a range of Open Educational Resource (OER), zero cost, and low-cost course materials, including textbooks, videos, tests, and software.
  11. Promote quality standards for instructional design in the development of courses and curricula.
  12. Support faculty in the development of new-to-online courses.
  13. Interact with various agencies/individuals, including the MA DHE, grant collaborators and professional development organizations.
  14. Maintain accurate, timely, and thorough project documentation for all instructional design activities.
  15. Maintain professional knowledge.
  16. Assume additional duties as required.

REQUIRED:
  • Master's degree in Instructional Media/Technology, Instructional System Design, Instructional Technology, Computer Science, Liberal Arts, Education, or a closely related field;
  • Six (6) years of experience and/or training that includes utilizing learning strategies for diverse learners, developing materials for multiple modalities, and the innovative use of technology; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

PREFERRED:
  • Experience developing course materials using OER;
  • Experience creating courses that fully employ the principles of Universal Design;
  • Experience assessing courses using Quality Matters standards;
  • Experience working with community college faculty;
  • Experience using Canvas, Hypothesis, and video repository software.

Full-time, MCCC Unit Position

Salary: Grade 7-- Minimum $70,246 - $75,681/year. Actual salary will be commensurate with education and experience in accordance with MCCC/MTA Collective Bargaining Agreement. Full State benefits package.Hours: 37.5 hrs. - 12 month position; This position is based on the college's Holyoke, Massachusetts campus, with options for telework/remote work upon the approval of a formal collegewide policy. (On-campus/Hybrid)Funding Source: State
