Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:

The mission of the School of Nursing is to enhance and improve the health and well-being of the people of North Carolina and the nation, and, as relevant and appropriate, the people of other nations, through its programs of education, research, and scholarship, and through clinical practice and community service. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Nursing has been the leader in nursing education in North Carolina throughout its history. Established in 1950, it was the first school of nursing in North Carolina to offer a four-year baccalaureate nursing degree program followed by the first master's degree program, the first continuing education program for nurses, first doctoral program, and first accelerated BSN option to students with college degrees. Today, the School is renowned for its academic programs, its research and its commitment to clinical and community service within state, national and global communities.

Position Summary:

The Data Collector will travel to the Department of Social Services and NCWorks Career Centers in Guilford County and possibly immediately surrounding counties to gather vital data. Data collection will include blood pressure using an Omron BP monitor, weight using a Tanita scale, physical activity through an Actigraph accelerometer, and a self-response survey through Qualtrics. During COVID-19 social distancing restrictions, the data collector must efficiently instruct the participant on how to use equipment from a safe distance of 6 feet away. The individual will need to maintain and organize data collection equipment to readily administer collection protocol. Also, the Data Collector will be responsible for correctly documenting data measurements, cleaning actions taken and equipment check-out logs.

In addition, this individual will complete study orientation and training to carry out all study roles, adhere to all COVID-19 safety protocols and procedures, complete regulatory requirements (IRB, etc.), and attend regular research team meetings via Zoom to give status updates or raise any concerns.

The ideal candidate will display strong communication skills in order to coherently articulate instructions to participants. This individual will be in constant contact with the study manager and principal investigator. Organization skills are essential to maintain a calendar of appointments and maintain proper equipment storage. The candidate must have the ability to follow information ordering to arrange actions in the order that study procedures specify. Most data collection appointments will take place in Guilford County, so candidates should live in the county. Occasional travel to neighboring counties may be required.

4. Manage participant appointment calendar
5. Report to and give updates to the NC Works4Health Research Team
6. Preserve researcher/participant relationship through mutual respect and sensitivity.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

Experience with data collection is a plus.
