Dental Assistant

1. Assists dentists in all phases of chairside dental treatment. Responsible for maintaining adequate level of supplies in assigned operatory and for maintaining assigned dental equipment and instruments in good working order.

2. Cleans and sterilizes instruments and sets up instrument bags maintaining infection control.

3. Responsible for taking, developing, mounting and filing x-rays.

4. Performs related duties as required; e.g., sterilizer maintenance, developer maintenance, lab maintenance, orthodontic assistance.

5. Performs laboratory work, such as pouring and trimming models.

6. Maintains good patient/staff relations and helps coordinate patient flow. Confirms appointments 24 hours in advance. Screens telephone calls and takes messages when appropriate. Performs clerical duties relative to supporting patient access for dental treatment, performs school program scheduling.

7. Assists in the training of new personnel.

8. With training, able to do expanded duties of orthodontic assistant, and performing pediatric cleanings and fluoride treatments.

9. Performs other duties as assigned, participates in department and center-wide meetings.

Qualifications
The incumbent must be licensed through the BORID (Board of Registration in Dentistry). Requirement of 12 CEU's per renewal cycle every two years. High School Graduate required. Graduate of accredited dental assistant training program and a minimum of 3-6 months experience in assisting preferred. Fluency in Spanish desirable.
