GENERAL DESCRIPTIONThe Director of the Rural East Texas Career Academy will report to the Executive Director of TSUS Polk County Center and be responsible for creating and overseeing career and technical education in collaboration with ISD partners in Polk and Tyler counties. The Director will be also expected to identify, develop, and operationalize community and regional partnerships to support the College's mission.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Collaborate with industry partners and ISD partners in Polk and Tyler counties to develop and oversee career and technical programs that will allow students to complete postsecondary degrees and credentials leading to high-demand, high-wage careers on or before graduating from high school.
  • Work with Deans, Associate Deans, Department Chairs, and Program Directors to align high school curriculum with postsecondary curriculum and needed workforce skills to enable students to earn an industry certificate or two-year postsecondary credential upon graduation from high school.
    • Determine and secure the most appropriate and convenient location(s) for the Rural East Texas Career Academy to reduce barriers to travel and access.
    • Identify and purchase appropriate state-of-the-art equipment to use within the Rural East Texas Career Academy.
    • Create and incorporate structured and wrap-around services for the Rural East Texas Career Academy to support students in the pathways.
  • Create and maintain written plans for the rural East Texas Career Academy Center to communicate the admissions and registration process that minimize conflicts with extra-curricular activities, outline recruitment and enrollment strategies, and provide appropriate resources to enhance students' likelihood of success.
  • Design and maintain seamless transitions for students completing high school and college into employment through local industry partnerships and agreements, work-based learning experiences, internships, apprenticeships, or other job training opportunities.
  • Promote and represent the college at regional public events, promotional opportunities, marketing campaigns, business and committee meetings, publicity functions, and high school events, (i.e., awards ceremonies and other related occasions).
  • Stay abreast of current trends, and best practices related to student services and CTE partnerships.
  • Stay current on State, Federal, System, and Institutional policies and procedures.
  • Guide prospective and current students in the awareness and planning of their educational career including the selection of the courses and programs of study.
  • Aid students, parents, and community agencies with accurate and up-to-date information to assist in making sound post-secondary educational decisions.
  • Participate and/or facilitate on and off-campus registration activities.
  • Participate in orientations and Student Success programs as directed.
  • Assist in arranging on-site college visits for parents and students.
  • Assist with recruitment and retention activities for dual enrollment students.
  • Provide referrals to students needing services such as tutoring, testing, career counseling, financial aid, disability services, etc.
  • Establish and maintain interdepartmental relationships with all student services and instructional programs.
  • Provide support and assistance to students via phone, web camera, online chat, and face-to-face.
  • Prepare reports and proposals to present to college and ISD stakeholders.
  • Respond to inquiries from all college stakeholders.






Qualifications:

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
EducationBachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred from a regionally accredited institution in instructional design and support, educational technologies, educational administration, or a related field
Experience

  • Experienced administrator in Texas public school system or Texas two-year college with familiarity in creating and/or supervising academic and technical programs.
  • Experience working with accountability metrics and systems.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Experience presenting to internal and external business stakeholders.
  • Experience in higher education student services and/or academic affairs and/or ISD administration
  • Experience with a Student Information System, preferably BANNER.

Physical RequirementsRequires constant sitting, walking, and seeing. Requires frequent standing, lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying objects up to 25 pounds; operating a calculator, personal computer, and various office equipment. Requires infrequent stooping, bending, sorting, and filing.
Security SensitiveThis position is security-sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215.
