The hourly rate for this position at Scotts/Hawthorne will generally fall between $31.30 - 40.70 per hour and is paid weekly. Scotts/Hawthorne will consider various factors in determining the actual pay including your skills, qualifications, experience, and geographical location.
We are looking for an Environmental, Health and Safety Coordinator who will join our Hawthorne Gardening Team.
What you'll do in this role:
- Responsible for providing effective professional safety and health support to the site and associates to improve and sustain site safety culture, safety and occupational health programs, environmental compliance, and procedures.
- Maintain safety incident documentation, follow-up on corrective action items, track associate performance and maintain consistent compliance of plant environmental health and safety programs.
- Assist with the development of job task hazard analysis, Lock-out Tagout procedures, personal protective equipment analysis, trials, standard operating procedures, and formula safety checklists.
- Assist with plant-wide safety meetings, training sessions, associate orientations, safety committee meetings, safety communications, identifying training needs, compiling training records in accordance with regulatory and corporate requirements, and safety observations and discussions with associates.
- Conduct regular inspections of safety equipment, fire systems, tools, and equipment, etc.
- Ensure required personal protective equipment is available to associates.
- Ensure safety data sheets and LOTO procedures are current and available.
- Issuing permits and monitoring permitted work such as hot work and work in confined spaces
- Assume a leadership role in developing and promoting a positive health and safety culture by maintaining a visible presence in all plant areas.
- Manage federal and state regulatory aspects of health and safety programs, including compliance with OSHA and Iowa IDNR reporting requirements, as well as other applicable regulations, company requirements, and guidelines.
- Maintain applicable RCRA, SWPPP, SPCC, NPDES and air permits.
- Ensure OSHA and Iowa IDNR documentation compliance with guidance from the corporate EH&S department.
- Conduct incident investigations with a focus on identification of preventative measures.
- Collaborate with employees and managers to identify and mitigate health and safety concerns.
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
What you'll need to be successful:
- Associates degree or 1-2 years of EHS experience in a manufacturing, agricultural or related field.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of EHS experience in manufacturing, agriculture, or related field; with increasing responsibilities.
- Proven experience in leading change and implementing new ideas and concepts.
- Track record of driving results through fact-based analysis and business process implementation.
- Working knowledge of applicable health and safety regulations and standards.
- Working knowledge of metrics, both lagging and leading.
- Ability to foster and develop a cooperative work environment.
- Skill in auditing/inspecting operations and company procedures.
- Ability to develop and implement effective EHS strategies and management systems.
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team within a shared services model of EHS support.
- Able to thrive in a dynamic, rapidly changing business environment.
- Strong leadership, facilitation, problem solving, organizational, communication and decision making skills.
- Ability to travel 25-50% of the time to other company operations.
