Job Summary/Basic Function:
Lead and work with electricians to perform journeyman-level installation and maintenance of industrial and domestic electrical systems, equipment and devices; perform related work.
This position is open to current, regular Boise State employees only.
Level Scope:
Regularly works on tasks that are varied and complex. Applies full range of specialized skills and job knowledge; frequently adapts procedures, techniques, tools, materials, and/or equipment to meet specialized needs; may serve as lead; performs broad and/or focused assignments under general supervision; originality and ingenuity are often required to help establish procedures in functional area; relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish assigned tasks.
Essential Functions:
• Lead assigned personnel in the performance of work.
• Assure adherence to safety rules and precautions by assigned personnel.
• Develop preliminary cost estimates for installation and repair.
• Develop methods and procedures to be followed by assigned personnel.
• Assist with hiring and training staff.
• Schedules and adjusts workload and evaluates performance.
• Calculates electrical equipment and system requirements.
• Tests safety equipment, exit and emergency lighting.
• Inspects electrical installations ensuring work is completed in accordance with applicable electrical codes.
• Reads and follows electrical blueprints, circuit diagrams, and schematics.
• Conducts electrical preventive maintenance including inspection, testing, cleaning, and lubricating equipment and systems.
• Completes and assigns work orders and keeps track of maintenance logs.
• Maintains and reviews catalog and product bulletins for equipment improvements
• Develops specifications and prepares requisitions for equipment and supplies.
• Supervises and trains others in the installation and repair of electrical systems.
• Assures quality control standards are met for electrical services.
• Assists other maintenance and crafts staff performing their duties.
• Responds to emergency call-back.
• May perform other duties as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
• Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction and repair of buildings or other structures.
• Communication skills to convey information to others effectively.
• Ability to successfully organize, plan and prioritize work.
Minimum Qualifications:
Licensed as a journeyman electrician in accordance with Title 54, Chapter 10, Idaho Code
Some knowledge of: supervisory practices.
Experience: planning, installing, and maintaining all phases of electrical work relating to building construction and equipment repair; interpreting electrical construction blueprints; using metering and motor testing equipment; installing and maintaining control panels, relays, and alarm and detection devices for high and low voltage equipment; developing material and equipment cost estimates for electrical projects; evaluating electrical specifications and performance criteria.
Physical ability to: lift and carry items weighing up to 60 pounds; climb ladders, bend, stoop, work in awkward positions for several hours at a time, and crawl through small tunnels that are hot, muddy, and wet; work during inclement weather.
A valid Driver's License is required.
Salary and Benefits:
Salary of $33.39/hr.
