Eskenazi Health serves as the public hospital division of the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County. Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 333-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus including at a network of Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.

Job Role Summary

The Environmental Service Educator is responsible for assisting in the development, implementation and maintenance of all training programs for the EVS mission and utilizes regulatory and industry-based training resources. This position trains talent and verifies on going competency to ensure program quality, sustainability, long-term growth and development. The position coordinates and executes all new-hire training, education, and onboarding of staff one-on-one and small group levels. This position provides opportunities and materials to assist in training and guidance to all staff members and utilizes continuous performance improvement techniques to accomplish department objectives, drive patient and employee satisfaction, and develop excellent working relationships with all internal customers. The EVS Educator customizes training documentation forms as required and plays a vital role in controlling cost to ensure the department is aligned with the direction of the Eskenazi Health organization by focusing on CHESP (certification training) and retention. This position works in conjunction with Human Resources to effectively recruit, develop and retain stable and competent workforce; serves as a member of the EVS Management. This position develops EVS policies and procedures and leads and/or contributes to department quality initiatives and programs.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Responsible for implementing a comprehensive new hire on-boarding program for all new EVS Mission Partners, AIDET Mission driven, with hospitality and customer service practices and behavior
• Researches, coordinates and implements core training programs and systems (cleaning/disinfecting practices, protocol, auditing tools, systems to measure effectiveness of educational activities and uses feedback to adjust programs accordingly
• Proactively handles any improvement opportunities or concerns. Leads or participates in performance improvement projects and improvement efforts
• Identifies areas of concern based on quality indicators of feedback and seek opportunities for improvement
• Maintains regulatory required training/educational documentation for all EVS positions as applicable to facility needs and oversees/maintains EVS quality and inspection programs
• Monitors progress of all new hires, provides ongoing feedback EVS leadership. For all EVS AIDET mission partners ensures ongoing competency as to limit procedural drifts and process variability across the department
• Manages multiple tasks in a fast paced environment and possesses the ability to adapt to change
• Participates in work groups and committees and remains an engaged interdisciplinary team player
• Create a benchmark for cleanliness standards, and timelines for patient throughput in the EPIC bed tracking system, inspect results by rounding of the facility, maintain a ATP tracking spreadsheet
• Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and local laws/regulations, as well as other policies and procedures. As assigned, assist or lead in development and updating of EVS policies, procedures, job descriptions, and guides
• Assist department/organization mission in successfully executing task and ensure productivity by using checklist and/or electronic tracking systems in real-time manner. Identify and report areas in need of repair and maintain consistent communication with new hires training and on-going organization mission
• According to facility needs identifies, appoints, and educates EVS AIDET mission partners qualified to serve as front-line trainer in order to assist with new hire and on-going training.
• Must be an active member of the IPC, required to report on data and training process quarterly in these meetings.
• Exhibits excellent interpersonal skills and provides a work environment that fosters positive energy, creativity, and teamwork among colleagues across all functional areas.

Job Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required; Associates degree preferred
• Three years of Environmental Services leadership experience
• Licensure/Certification - T-CHESP ( Trainer - Certified Healthcare Environmental Services Technician) preferred, or obtained within 12 months of hire

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Uses keyboard, mouse, or alternate input devices

• Ability to operate various floor care cleaning equipment
• Able to balance and maintain equilibrium on uneven surfaces.
