Position Overview:
The Tulane University Celia Scott Weatherhead School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine is seeking a dynamic and innovative individual to join our faculty and lead initiatives in workforce development with a special emphasis on increasing diversity and inclusion in public health practice. This new faculty position will develop and lead workforce initiatives to train the public health workforce and increase representation of Black men in this workforce. The faculty position will utilize community engagement strategies to identify and collaborate with diverse stakeholders and develop innovative curriculum and metrics to prepare highly skilled public health practitioners.

The ideal candidate will bring a strong commitment to health equity, public health practice and equity, diversity and inclusion and experience in developing programs and strategies that address workforce development needs. Experience working in state or local health departments is highly desirable but not required. We encourage candidates with a broad range of professional backgrounds, including non-academic backgrounds, to apply.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop initiatives focused on public health workforce development, with an emphasis on providing continuing education for public health agencies and increasing diversity and representation within the field.
  • Collaborate with community organizations, state and local health departments, and other key stakeholders to advance workforce initiatives.
  • Serve as the primary academic lead to develop the Black Male Project, a program designed to increase the number of Black men in the public health workforce.
  • Teach graduate-level courses related to workforce development, Black men's health, or other areas of expertise.
  • Engage in research or program development related to workforce issues, public health education, or community health.
  • Participate in service activities within the school and broader academic community
  •  


    Qualifications:
  • Doctoral degree in Public Health, Social Sciences, Health Policy, or a related field.
  • A strong commitment to health equity and diversity, equity and inclusion in the public health workforce.
  • Experience in workforce development, training, or leadership initiatives is preferred.
  • Experience in state or local health departments is highly desirable but not required.
  • Candidates with leadership in health-related organizations are encouraged to apply.
