Job Description:
The Tax Accountant - Indirect Tax Compliance will assist with the compliance reporting process for sales and use taxes, gross receipts taxes, excise taxes, annual reports, and certain business licenses within the Life Sciences division. This will include the monthly data collection and analysis for all state sales and use tax compliance. Collecting, managing, and maintaining customer exemption certificates as well as maintaining up to date state and local tax rates in the ERP will also be required. This position will be responsible for all state sales tax audits and communications and or reconciliation with local jurisdictions as required. This position will be the in-house expert for sales and use tax and be available to teach, review and assist with A/R and A/P clerical staff and their compliance of sales and use tax at the transaction level as needed. This function will ensure that all reporting obligations are respected as well as filed accurately and timely. The individual in this position will also liaison with the various business units on all compliance related matters including providing journal entries and exemption certificates.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Assist with the preparation of all indirect tax returns including reconciling of the General Ledger to sales reports.
- Provide support to our registered agent related to annual reports.
- Monitoring tax law changes and analyzing the impact on our filing profile.
- Collaborate with tax technology team to ensure systems are up to date with tax law/rate changes.
- Assist the State & Local Indirect Tax Senior Manager with the management and collection of information for indirect tax audits.
- Assist with special projects as needed.
Professional Requirements: - BS/BA in business administration, accounting, or finance preferred.
- 3-5 years' experience within the Sales & Use tax compliance process.
- Experience working with state Sales & Use taxes and applicable Gross Receipts/Excise Tax for state and local municipalities.
- Prior experience with researching state transaction tax laws using RIA Checkpoint or Bloomberg Tax preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize, organize, and perform multiple tasks with varying deadlines simultaneously.
- Ability to interact independently with peers and management, possess excellent accounting, communication and analytical skills and work under internal and external deadlines.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
The ideal candidate will have:
3-5 years of Indirect Taxation experience.
