SUMMARY

Paragon Professional Services, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of subsidiary of Bering Straits Native Corporation (BSNC), is seeking a Bachelor of Science in Geology graduate to work from our Anchorage, Alaska Office on environmental investigation, characterization, and remediation projects. The qualified candidate must be safety conscious, motivated and hardworking with 3 years of environmental consulting experience with an understanding of geological field techniques and the many aspects of working on sites involving contaminated soil, soil vapor, groundwater, sediment, and surface water. Primary duties will include field work for the collection of samples; providing data analysis, research, and technical consultation; preparing planning documents; and preparing various field data summaries and interpretative reports. The position will provide the successful candidate opportunities to travel and work outdoors in project locations on Federal lands and facilities primarily in Alaska, with the potential for other locations.
Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Safely execute all job duties
  • Perform field work as assigned
  • Prepare project submittals, including work plans and reports in accordance with Federal and State of Alaska regulations, including CERCLA
  • Perform field observations and sampling of environmental media (soil, soil vapor, groundwater, sediment, surface water, etc.)
  • Perform data collection and documentation related to field activities
  • Travel to project locations including driving and overnight stays
  • Support the analysis and interpretation of field data
  • Update/prepare work plans
  • Prepare data reports, boring logs, and other technical reports
  • Data entry and QA/QC of data tables, maps, reports, and other work products
  • Perform subcontractor oversight
  • Perform junior staff oversight

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS - EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION

Required (Minimum Necessary) Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Geology, or equivalent from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in environmental investigation and remediation activities including groundwater, soil, and air sample collection, monitoring well installation, and reporting.
  • Willing and able to travel, with up to a 70/30 field-to-office based ratio to support multiple projects in the first years of employment
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Familiarity with technical data analysis and contamination delineation techniques
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record
  • OSHA 510 (30-Hour Construction Training)
  • 40-Hour HAZWOPER current 8-hour HAZWOPWER Refresher Training per 29 CFR 1910.120(e)
  • USACE Construction Quality Management For Contractors (QCM)
  • Asbestos Building Inspector EPA 40 CFR Part 763, Subpart G and Subpart E

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics
  • Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong organizational skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, computer literacy, and strong attention to detail
  • Strong report writing skills
  • Ability to manage and perform multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to find solutions to unique logistical and environmental challenges
  • Ability to perform quality control functions during site work
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Strong work ethic with flexibility to work outside normal business hours and/or in unfavorable weather conditions
  • Capable of preparing report figures using GIS software,
  • Experience in site surveying using Real Time Kinetic instrumentation

Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for bending, stooping, sitting, walking, or standing for prolonged periods of time including the ability to occasionally carry a 40-pound load over rough/uneven terrain in remote areas. Some of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position with frequent opportunity to move about.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work Environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be borne by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

This position is primarily a field position (approximately 70%) and travel to remote areas will be required. Employees must always maintain a constant state of mental alertness. Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for bending, stooping, sitting, walking, or standing for prolonged periods of time including the ability to occasionally carry up to 40-pound loads over rough/uneven terrain in remote areas. When not in the field, the work will be performed in a modern office setting involving extensive use of a computer, keyboard, mouse, and multi-line telephone system. Most of the office time will be spent sitting in a comfortable position with frequent opportunity to move about.

DOT COVERED/SAFETY-SENSITIVE ROLE REQUIREMENTS
  • This position is not subject to federal requirements regarding Department of Transportation "safety-sensitive" functions.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Occasional supervision of vendors or subcontractors and mentoring junior staff.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFYING FACTORS

As a condition of employment, you will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening and have acceptable background check results. If applicable to the contract, you must also obtain the appropriate clearance levels required and be able to obtain access to military installations.
