Nature & Purpose of Position:Graduate assistant will meet with first-generation, first-time freshmen and help them navigate their first year in college via academic support, mentoring, academic advising support, and making referrals to other sources on campus. The position also collects participant data to support program evaluation, tracks student academic progress & participation and maintains appropriate documentation and records, in accordance with federal, university, and program policy and regulations. The position will also assist with TRIO programming as needed via textbook library, tutoring events, tutorial lab, recruitment activities and with Blackboard curriculum, zoom workshops, and in person workshops
Other Requirements for the Position:Enrollment in graduate school (masters or doctoral level) at SHSU, expected graduation date of 2025 or later, GPA of at least a 3.0. Good communication skills, effective time management skills, and strong organizational skills are needed
