Instructor or Lecturer in Food Animal Medicine, Reproduction and Surgery

Full-time, 100% (12-month basis)

The Department of Veterinary Clinical Medicine, College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Illinois (UIUC) invites applicants for a full-time Instructor or Lecturer position in Food Animal Medicine, Reproduction and Surgery. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching (clinical, didactic and laboratory) and clinical service. The candidate will join a team of 4 clinicians within the Food Animal Reproduction and Medicine Service (FARMS: https://vetmed.illinois.edu/hospital/veterinary-teaching-hospital/veterinary-specialties/food-animal/ ), as well as a wider team of extension, animal care program, and research faculty serving food animal teaching and research needs.

The successful candidate will have primary responsibility for training veterinary students, interns and residents in farm animal medicine, while providing reproductive, production and surgical services to private clients and the UIUC farms. To cover service responsibilities clinical work will include reproductive management, production medicine and emergency services for beef and dairy cattle, swine, and small ruminant herds. There will be participation in shared on-call duty with the other FARMS faculty. The primary clinical teaching effort will be directed towards DVM students during their 2-week FARMS rotations throughout the year, where students receive on-farm and in-clinic instruction in basic clinical skills. The appointee's teaching responsibilities will include didactic, laboratory, and clinical teaching of professional students and house officers.

The caseload is a balance of referral and primary care patients, and is considered to be the fourth highest caseload for North American Veterinary Colleges and Schools. The breakdown of species is about 60% cattle, with the balance of cases involving small ruminants, camelids, and other production/ pet livestock.

All faculty are expected to be involved in some aspect of scholarly activity, professional outreach, committee service, and curriculum development. Ample opportunity exists for collaboration with current faculty within the College and University.

REQUIREMENTS: The successful candidate must have a DVM degree or equivalent. The ability to obtain Illinois licensure and USDA accreditation is required for this position.

SALARY: The budgeted salary range for this position is $100,000 to $130,000. The pay offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors including (but not limited to) the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate including equivalent years in rank, training, and field or discipline; internal equity; and external market pay for comparable positions.
