Description

Do you have experience in psychology or social work and want to help juveniles and their families through mental health and substance use issues?

PATHS (Prevention and Treatment for the Health and Stability of Children and Families) is the Family Treatment Court (FTC) developed by the Massachusetts Juvenile Court Department to help families that have open Care and Protection cases and are negatively impacted by substance misuse.

The Hampden County Family Treatment Court (FTC) Clinician will play a key role in assessing, providing treatment recommendations and making referrals for FTC participants and their families as well as monitoring their progress in treatment. The Clinician also assists the FTC Specialty Court Coordinator with participant case management tasks related to Social Determinants of Health. Participants are assessed at baseline, six months, and 12 months. The Court Clinician is a member of the Hampden County FTCteam which also includes the Judge, FTC Coordinator, Probation Officer, a DCF Liaison, and the attorneys involved in the Care and Protection case. The Team, including the Court Clinician meets weekly in court staffing to discuss the progress of each participant with the intention of preparing the Judge for the FTC session that immediately follows.

Your experience, knowledge and skills will support the Family Treatment Court's PATHS program with the following:

  • Provide clinical screening, psychosocial assessments and service planning for family treatment court referrals in accordance with Juvenile Court operational procedures
  • Identify level of care and treatment recommendations for participants
  • Assist participants in referral process and care coordination
  • Build linkages with and engaging community-based service providers to help enhance the success of family treatment court participants
  • Assess the needs of the family and make appropriate community-based referrals.
  • Help engage participants and their families, in consultation with the PATHS team, to maximize participant success
  • Coordinate and partner with probation, and participate when appropriate, on home visits and community contacts
  • Provide testimony, if required, to the court on the status of each participant
  • Recommend adjustments to the treatment plan for the participant in collaboration with the PATHS team.
