Detailed Position Information
The Department of Modern Languages and Classics at the University of Alabama invites applications for a non-tenure track, three-year renewable contract position of Language Assessment Coordinator at the rank of Assistant Professor of Applied Linguistics, to begin August 16, 2025. This is a position with opportunities for promotion to higher rank. The successful applicant will have demonstrated expertise in language testing and assessment in university contexts, with a related research agenda, as well as native or near-native competence in one of the languages taught in the department.

The successful candidate will coordinate language placement and proficiency testing for various programs in the department, as well as collaborate with language programs on student outcomes assessment. Teaching responsibilities include graduate and/or undergraduate courses. Additionally, the successful candidate is expected to serve as a liaison to related university units, such as the Office of Institutional Effectiveness, Center for Instructional Technology, and Testing Services. Candidate must have a Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics or related fields in hand by August 15, 2025.

The Department Modern Languages and Classics offers 10 languages as undergraduate majors and minors, has a Critical Language Center providing instruction in less commonly taught languages, and an active linguistics community.
