Job Description:

The Theatre Department at Binghamton University seeks a full-time Lecturer in Acting to teach foundational acting classes beginning in the 2025-2026 academic year. The successful applicant will teach a 3 course per semester load with an initial contract of up to 3 years, that may be renewable. In addition to teaching acting, the Department would be interested in expertise in one or more of the following areas: African Diaspora & African American theatre, Asian & Asian American theatre, Latinx theatre, Indigenous/Native American theatre, physical theater, stage combat, voice, clown, and/or intimacy direction. The preferred candidate's teaching approach will be informed by professional practice and influenced by traditional and emerging trends in actor training. We expect the selected applicant to teach introductory acting classes and a course in their area of specialty, and to collaborate with faculty on student mentorship efforts.

Binghamton offers both a Bachelor of Arts in theatre with concentrations in acting/directing, design/technical theatre, and dance and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in musical theatre. Because Binghamton students are notable for their high-achieving academic record, students in both degree programs seek to explore dramaturgical and artistic depth. In addition to performance courses in a wide range of techniques, students audition for main stage and studio productions ranging from the classical to the contemporary, including musicals, plays, and dance productions.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to: (1) creative collaboration; (2) teaching excellence; (3) working towards a national and/or international reputation as a practitioner and/or scholar; (4) organizational and administrative duties; and (5) recruitment, retention and guidance of students.

The ideal candidate will be an artist-teacher, whose teaching and/or professional experience will contribute to diversity and equity. The department is committed to providing opportunities to increase participation in classes and productions by students of color and other marginalized communities. The candidate should have facility with culturally responsive acting approaches, and possess a fluid, adaptable pedagogy. Members of underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply.
