Job SummaryThis is a full-time, benefited position that provides direct customer assistance at the library's front desk. The Library Paraprofessional I will be responsible for trouble-shooting issues pertaining to equipment, technology, and customer accounts using established policies and procedures. The position performs public services in a wide variety of general library tasks and works closely with a team. Some of the typical tasks include: preparing library for opening/closing; checking materials in/out using a computer and specialized software; greeting and directing patrons to various locations; locating materials; answering the phone; using a computer to provide information to the public; explaining how to use Galileo and the library catalog; receiving and resolving complaints or referring to a supervisor; collecting and recording fines/fees; assisting with and/or leading special projects; attending staff meetings and contributing to library committees. Reports directly to a shift supervisor. Contributes to training and supervision of Circulation Student Assistants. Must become familiar with and apply complex policies and procedures to a wide-variety of situations.

Utilize specialized knowledge of the Library's ILS (Alma) and BANNER, works as part of a team which represents the public face of the Library as personalized assistance is provided to students, faculty, staff and members of the local community. Identify and locate materials within the Library, both physical and digital; edit database records; manage financial transactions; interpret and apply policy; create accurate records of loaned materials; diplomatically negotiate with disgruntled users; interface with other units of the University (such as Public Safety, Auxiliary Services, ITS, academic departments, etc.); evaluate materials for disposal or repair; provide information about other campus services and events; manage the return of materials to storage with high levels of accuracy; assist in development of departmental policies and procedures, etc.

IntraLibrary Lending: Retrieves materials requested for loan to other USG libraries via the GIL Express System; processes materials for shipping; trains faculty and students in the use of the system and interfaces with other libraries in the University System in order to resolve problems.

Professional Growth: Takes initiative for self-education in library issues related to the job through reading, attendance at available conferences/seminars/workshops, etc.; may engage in formal study designed to upgrade skills and knowledge needed in order to perform at the highest possible professional level.

Student Worker Management: Helps train, supervise, and discipline Circulation student workers.

Service to the Institution: serves on Campus and Library committees when possible; participates in special events in the Library as needed; assists other library or campus employees as needed.
Other Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree, at least one year of customer service experience, strong written and verbal communication skills, working knowledge of MS Office products, intercultural competency, friendly attitude, ability to work under pressure and manage challenging customer service situations, excellent attention to detail, thoroughness, and accuracy.
Additional Preferred Qualifications
At least one year's worth of library experience or library degree in progress/completed, experience with an ILS (Alma, Voyager, etc.), experience with Banner, working knowledge of collaboration software like Google Drive, understands library classification, intermediate to advanced computer skills and ability to use standard business equipment.
Salary is commensurate with experience.
