Sandra Eskenazi Mental Health Center, Indiana's first community mental health center, provides comprehensive care for emotional and behavioral problems, including severe mental illness and substance abuse. The Sandra Eskenazi Mental Health Centeroffers both inpatient and outpatient services, including several outreach centers as well as clinic- and community-based services.

About the Assessment Intervention Center

The Assessment Intervention Center (AIC) provides assistance navigating mental health, addiction, homelessness and other socio-economic issues influencing an individual's overall health and well-being. The AIC is FREE and can be utilized by any Marion County resident, although it is strategically situated on the Community Justice Campus to facilitate easy referrals for those trapped in the cycles of the criminal justice system.

Where You Fit In

As a Licensed Crisis Clinician, your responsibilities, will provide assessment, intervention, and support to all individuals experiencing mental illness, substance use, or homelessness presenting to the AIC.

What to Expect

The Licensed Clinician plays a direct role in engaging with law enforcement and community referral sources, such as the Marion County Sheriff's Office, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, and Marion County hospital emergency rooms. Responsibilities include assessing the needs and risks of each referral and Assessment and Intervention Center (AIC) resident, with the aim of facilitating the connection of these individuals to appropriate treatment and community resources.

Am I Qualified?

  • Master's degree in a Human Services field.
  • Required licensure: LMHC (Licensed Mental Health Counselor), LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker), or LMFT (Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist).
  • Valid Indiana driver's license.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Endorses and models a strengths-based, community-centered model of care.
  • Provides assessment, intervention, and supportive services to individuals referred to and staying at the AIC.
  • Conducts crisis mental health and substance abuse screenings.
  • Evaluates psychosocial status and needs for the development of an appropriate care plan.
  • Provides daily living skills education when appropriate.
  • Serves as a referral source for both referrals and residents, working cooperatively with community resources/agencies.
  • Maintains appropriate documentation for all services provided.
  • Provides ongoing evaluative, crisis response, linkage, and direct client supportive services to the Assessment and Intervention Center housing unit.
  • Delivers AIC supportive services in both group and individual settings.
  • Conducts screening for suicide and homicide risk.
  • Screens for acute care services, including detoxification and substance use acute care.
  • Assists with service development and performance improvement.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge:
  • Knowledge of best standards for age-appropriate care.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span.
  • Training in the use and side effects of psychotropic medications.
Skills:
  • Advanced critical thinking regarding assessment, crisis intervention, within a strength-based framework.
  • Strong interpersonal skills/ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both verbal and written communication.
  • Practice in mental health and addictions treatment.
  • Experience in providing risk assessments.
Abilities:
  • Ability to gather, interpret, and analyze client data.
  • Ability to provide case presentations to AIC nursing and paramedic staff.
  • Ability to receive feedback.
