The University of Miami Health System (UHealth), Department of Pediatrics - Poison Control, has an exciting opportunity for a Full-Time Manager, Community Health to work in Miami.

The Manager, Community Health manages the reporting of community benefit activities and assists in the coordination and delivery of the UHealth's community health strategy. The Manager, Community Health focuses on managing support strategies collaboratively to measurably improve health and wellbeing in the community. Moreover, the Manager, Community Health manages, coordinates, and supports the development and implementation of strategies that result in best practices, programs, and/or initiatives to effectively address needs identified in the Community Health Needs Assessment.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Oversees and coordinates effective collaboration with internal and external partners, including community residents, non-profits, for-profits, government agencies, research agencies, schools/school districts, and health care organizations.

  • Collaborates with leadership to assess the health needs of the communities served by UHealth.

  • Manages appropriate community health programs based on the identified community needs.

  • Builds and maintains an inventory of new and existing community health programs and services.

  • Manages the accurate tracking of research and community benefit activities through the engagement of internal stakeholders and the facilitation of education and training activities.

  • Collaborates with key stakeholders and departments across the system to track and complete reporting to remain in compliance with federal requirements and other entities as needed.

  • Establishes rapport with all levels of the organization ensuring a positive image is conveyed to internal and external partners and stakeholders.

  • Manages multiple projects and competing priorities leveraging project management expertise and experience.

  • Exhibits high emotional intelligence with deftness in navigating complex organizations with multiple stakeholders.

  • Encourages teamwork and culture, supports colleagues, builds collective capabilities, and plays a vocal part in team meetings.

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Department Specific Functions:

  • Coordinating and presenting poison prevention (age-specific) education to audiences throughout Miami-Dade, Broward, Monroe, Palm Beach, Collier and Lee counties, as well as statewide or nationwide, as needed.

  • Leading initiatives to raise awareness about poison prevention and establishing collaborative partnerships with local agencies, community leaders, schools and stakeholders.

  • Analyzing and proposing changes to improve outreach into populations with healthcare access and language barriers.

  • Working with America's Poison Centers, CDC and other organizations to increase preparedness and prevent injuries as part of specific campaigns.

  • Collecting and analyzing epidemiologic data for the Public Education segment of the HRSA Poison Control Stabilization and Enhancement grant.

  • Publishing the "In-TOX" newsletter to South Florida clinicians and healthcare workers on emerging toxicologic and public health threats.

  • Creating campaigns and educational material for community distribution focused on poison prevention and advocacy.

  • Working closely with Florida Poison Information Center Network educators statewide.

  • Designing plans and assisting with grant applications in collaboration with the Director(s).

  • Developing and executing research/programs in collaboration with partners and students/rotators.

  • Collecting and interpreting epidemiological data for presentation to and review by the Director(s).

  • Periodic lecturing and training of medical, graduate and undergraduate students and poison center rotators.

  • Fulfilling administrative duties in conjunction with the Director and Program Administrator.

  • Maintaining detailed records of program activities, participant feedback and outcomes.

  • Attending trainings to maintain competency in job skills and presenting research results at scientific meetings, including national Poison Center Leadership and toxicology conferences.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant field

  • MPH, PhD preferred

  • CHES Certified

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience, 10 years' experience working in a Poison Control Center Program preferred.

  • Ability to collect, analyze and disseminate information about the epidemiology of poisoning.

  • Skill in conducting needs assessments and designing educational strategies responsive to identified needs of the poison center's diverse service population.

  • Ability to identify, develop and sustain collaborative relationships with local, statewide and national safety and health organizations.

  • Skill in creating and delivering educational programming on the prevention of poisoning, current poison hazards, and related injury prevention and environmental health topics.

  • Familiarity and comfort educating audiences including parents, community advocates, healthcare providers.

  • Understanding of poison control center practices, organizational structures and data sources.

  • Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.

  • Skill in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data.

  • Proficiency in computer software (i.e., Microsoft Office).

  • Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.
