Position Information:

  • This is an on-site position in Pontiac, IL.
  • Domestic relocation is available for this position.
  • This position supports Quality Assurance for Fuel Systems and Aftertreatment.
Role Definition:

The Manufacturing Engineering Manager (Quality Assurance)will serve as the primary contact for overseeing and enhancing the execution of New Product Introduction (NPI) and New Capital Introduction (NCI) projects, ensuring best-in-class quality expectations are met through the effective implementation of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and Caterpillar's Quality Management System (CQMS). The successful candidate will play a crucial role within Pontiac's New Capital Introduction (NCI) projects to achieve quality deliverables while identifying and mitigating risks prior to production launch.

What you will do (includes but not limited to):
  • Leading, planning, and coordinating efforts related to manufacturing engineering, production processes, and quality assurance to achieve operational excellence.
  • Responsible to ensure the process infrastructure is created and implemented for NPI/NCI projects to exceed expectations of Caterpillar's value stream certification process.
  • Lead and manage all aspects of a Proactive Quality for NPI/NCI with focus on APQP critical elements.
  • Quality Assurance Oversight: Maintain and enhance the Quality Management System to meet ISO 9001:2015 and CAT QMS standards, performing regular assessments, maintain balanced scorecards, and collaborating with stakeholders to implement best practices.
  • APQP and Process Improvement: Drive the development and implementation of APQP components such as Process Flow Diagrams, Process FMEAs, Control Plans, and SPC/Measurement plans. Actively participate in gate reviews and facilitate meetings to resolve any quality issues.
  • Safety and Compliance: Promote workplace safety and ensure compliance with safety regulations and organizational standards. Assist in Safety FMEAs and Safety reviews to support an injury free facility.
What you will have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology field, Quality Management, or an engineering / quality related discipline.
  • Leadership and Communication: Lead and coordinate cross-functional teams on critical NCI/NPI projects, ensuring alignment on project timelines, health of deliverables vs Key Process Indicator (KPI) quality objectives.
  • Manufacturing Engineering Integration: Work closely with operations and product managers to support automated manufacturing systems, manufacturing processes, and product engineering that align with product and operational objectives (KPIs).
  • Training and Development: Oversee the training and development of personnel for quality, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.
  • Project Management: Extensive experience using effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives.
Top Candidates will also have:
  • Extensive experience in quality assurance and manufacturing engineering, with a focus on ISO 9001:2015 Quality Systems.
  • Effective Communications: Extensive experience using effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
  • Certification in Six Sigma (Green Belt or Black Belt) with experience leading Six Sigma projects.
  • Certified ASQ Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence and or Quality Engineer.
  • Proven expertise in NPI, APQP, process mapping - PFMEA - Control Plans, and other quality assurance methodologies.
  • Strong analytical abilities and proficiency in risk assessment tools.
  • Knowledge in statistical techniques, lean manufacturing principles and practices.
  • Expertise in disciplined problem-solving using techniques such as 8D.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing equipment and processes, along with the ability to analyze and improve factory support processes/systems.
