Join our team of competent and compassionate professionals as a MCI Counselor in the Mobile Crisis Intervention program at Behavioral Health Network!

The MCI Counselor strives to provide high-quality mobile and community-based care to all individuals by providing resources and connections to better meet their needs. The MCI Counselor will deliver short-term (72-hour) follow-up/case management to ensure successful connections.

Your experience, knowledge and great skills will support the Adult Mobile Crisis Intervention program with the following:

  • Managing incoming crisis calls.
  • De-escalating and supporting callers to determine their current needs.
  • Gathers basic demographic and insurance information as well as information about the crisis at hand.
  • Prioritizes assigning mobile assessments as the preferred method of response during triage.
  • Assigning appropriate crisis clinical staff to cases based on triage guidelines.
  • Documenting triage calls in timely, concise, and succinct manner.
  • Acting as the primary "point of contact" for all individuals served who have accessed crisis services, ensuring that individuals are being followed throughout the process of being connected to services and resources within BHN and the community.
  • Navigating individuals through the process of getting connected to the services identified by the MCI crisis clinician and making the appropriate referrals.
  • Maintaining direct service productivity as agreed.
  • Completing all required trainings.
  • Facilitating collaboration and consultation with internal and external service providers including but not limited to the use of specialty care managers to meet individuals' needs in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Documenting for services in a manner that is compliant with all applicable rules/regulations.
  • Maintaining an organized file system for documents and records and keeps accurate track of individuals' ongoing status.
  • Assisting in the training of new staff and interns


What are we looking for in a MCI Counselor?
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related mental health field (Social Work or Psychology) with minimum of 1 year of work experience in a related mental health field required.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for all working hours required.
  • Knowledge of mental illness, the interface between mental health and medical conditions and systems, substance abuse, and care management.
  • Must have familiarity with the internet, word processing, and email systems
  • Professional demeanor and phone skills in communicating with individuals served and other professionals.
  • Knowledge of delivery systems, organizational skills, and understanding of crisis intervention.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Provides flexibility and consideration of the individual served when completing assignments relating to care.
  • Collaborates and coordinates services with state agencies, primary care, and other service providers on behalf of the individual served and as indicated on the crisis treatment plan.
  • Demonstrates flexibility and cooperative attitude when requested to perform additional duties.
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of community resources and how to help families access them.
  • Maintains strong knowledge of the various community-based behavioral health programs available to youth and their families in Western Massachusetts.
  • Demonstrates ability to provide community-based services.
  • Strives to provide high-quality community-based services to all.
  • Demonstrates willingness and ability to work with client populations from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
