We will foster programs in the areas of basic, translational, mechanistic, and population research.

Position Summary:

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Division of Cognitive Neurology / Memory Disorders is seeking a full-time, tenure-track, research-emphasis faculty to join our expanding Cognitive and Behavioral Neurology Division. The position can be assistant, associate, or full professor rank depending on experience and eligibility. This academic appointment also requires providing tertiary clinical services at least 1 day/week, and some participation in existing clinical research activities.

The primary responsibility will be to make contributions to the advancement of neurodegeneration research, with a particular focus on those which impact cognition and behavior. You will have the opportunity to teach graduate student and/or medical school classes. You will be expected to maintain an active and extramurally-funded research program, support and train graduate students, mentor postdoctoral researchers, and educate residents and fellows when on service.

A wealth of research opportunities are provided by established programs in NIH-sponsored research consortia participation involving Dementia with Lewy bodies and Frontotemporal Degeneration. The division has also been designated a Research Center of Excellence by the Lewy Body Dementia Association. An expanding portfolio of clinical trial opportunities in Alzheimer's disease and related disorders, several collaborations with a robust and research-intensive Division of Geriatric Medicine, and access to state-of-the-art neuroimaging facilities, including a 7T MRI scanner and hybrid PET-MRI scanner are other potential research avenues. These collaboration opportunities are supported by the state-of-the-art Biomedical Research Imaging Center (BRIC), and the Duke/UNC Alzheimer's Disease Research Center (ADRC) as a source of patient materials and biofluids for research programs.

The North Carolina Research Triangle Park (RTP) metropolitan area is a regional community with over 1.3 million residents. The area is cosmopolitan with one of the lowest costs of living of all major U.S. cities. The area is accompanied by excellent dining, entertainment, music, professional sports, and museums. Within the RTP, Chapel Hill offers excellent opportunities for K-12 education in both public and private school venues; several Chapel Hill area schools are listed among the Best Schools in the Nation. The area is home to several colleges and universities. Chapel Hill is a classic college town, with numerous cultural offerings, abundant housing options, easy commutes, and outstanding school districts. The area is known for its natural beauty, with many springs, lakes, parks and forests, and rivers. The climate encourages outdoor activities such as hiking, swimming, boating, fishing, bicycling, and camping. This all combines to make Chapel Hill and surrounding areas a wonderful place to live and pursue a career.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Candidate must possess an M.D., M.D./ PhD, or equivalent degree and have completed both a Neurology residency and a Behavioral Neurology & Neuropsychiatry, Geriatric Neurology, or equivalent fellowship. The candidate should be licensed or eligible for medical licensure in North Carolina.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

A subspecialty research interest is highly desirable.
