The Physician Assistant (Surgical PA-C, Licensed) provides direct assistance to the primary surgeon during surgical procedures. The Physician Assistant performs preoperative histories and physicals on patients for each attending physician. Writes post-op notes and orders for each patient in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU). May respond to calls from nursing units regarding clinical management of the surgical patients, assessing, diagnosing and writing orders on behalf of the attending physician. Performs special clinical procedures under the direction of the attending physician.

Minimum Education: Masters Degree required - Physician Assistant Program

Minimum Experience: 5 years of related experience required - 2+ years of Intensive Care experience is preferred.

Prefer applicants with one year of experience in surgical assistance or successful completion of a Physician Assistant - Surgical Program or Surgical residency. Knowledge of and ability to maintain sterile technique required. Knowledgeable about diagnostic ancillary testing and interpretation of test results, medications and current treatment regimes required. Ability to write orders and progress notes in fluent English under the direction of attending physicians.

1. Basic CPR certification is required.
2. ACLS certification for block room utilization.
