The Department of Environmental Health Sciences at the Tulane University Celia Scott Weatherhead School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine (CSWSPHTM) is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join a multidisciplinary team working on a National Academy of Sciences Gulf Research Program-funded project. This project investigates the impacts of several climate change-induced risk factors-such as heat, humidity, tropical storms, and floods-on cardiovascular, respiratory, and mental health outcomes in the Gulf South region of the United States, determines their cumulative effects, and assesses the vulnerabilities to these impacts.
The successful candidate will be supervised by Dr. Mostafijur Rahman, Assistant Professor of Environmental Health Sciences. The postdoctoral researcher will actively engage in various scientific activities, including study design, data analysis, manuscript preparation, mentoring graduate and undergraduate students, presenting study findings at conferences, and developing research proposals. Additionally, the candidate will participate in career development activities and will be encouraged to apply for transitional career awards and/or mentored career development awards.
The initial appointment will be for one year, with the possibility of extension for up to two additional years based on performance.
A doctoral degree in a relevant field (e.g., epidemiology, environmental health sciences, biostatistics, or statistical modeling required.
Demonstrated interest in environmental health, with a preference for experience in air pollution or climate change research. Intermediate to advanced proficiency in at least one statistical and/or programming software (e.g., SAS, R, or Python) is required. Experience in exposure modeling and GIS is beneficial but not required.
