The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Orthopedics is currently seeking a full time Predoctoral Scholar to work in Miami, FL. The Predoctoral Scholar, SOM participates in the daily activities of the laboratory with the purpose of facilitating the development of a high-level research program.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

• Prepares experiment proposals with detailed rationale, background data, and proposed methods and organization.

• Conducts laboratory experiments and studies and records findings.

• Maintains data files and conducts data analysis.

• Drafts and publishes manuscripts and articles for peer-reviewed journals.

• Prepares and submits grant applications.

• Designs, executes, interprets, and integrates scientific data.

• Maintains current knowledge of significant developments in the field.

• Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Education:

Bachelor's degree in relevant field required

Experience:

No prior experience required

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

• Skill in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data.

• Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.

• Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.

Department Specific Functions

This position requires someone with history of strong academic performance (minimum 3.5 GPA is preferred). Prior research and/or clinical experience and completion of undergraduate coursework in statistics and computer science is preferred. Robust written and oral communication skills, attention to detail, and strong organizational skills are all expected. Independence, self-motivation, and a willingness to learn new skills are also vital for succeeding in this position.

They will perform research activities including review of current literature, formulation of study methods, collection of data (through chart review or prospective collection), development of analysis plan and analysis of data, interpretation of data, and writing of manuscripts and grant submissions.
