Principal Program Manager

Santa Clara, CA or New York, NY (hybrid)

We are looking for a Principal Program Manager to join our Business Program Management team. In this role, we're looking for someone who can take on program management responsibilities for some of our most critical objectives and programs. Your strategic leadership will be the driving force in building a comprehensive roadmap that leads to impactful results and meet our business needs. You will be responsible for becoming a trusted colleague to our cross functional objective teams and DRI (designated responsible individual) and will closely partner with them to drive strategy and alignment across all levels of the organization.

Your operational mindset will help to drive the development of scalable processes that lead to higher performing teams. Working with key members of PMO leadership, you will help frame the needs of the team and tackle opportunities that drive greater efficiency. This may include areas such as change and risk management, objective level communication, and dependency management. You will be expected to provide ongoing mentorship across the organization to drive the adoption of best practices and help chart a path for continuous improvement.

The Organization:
The Chegg Portfolio Management Organization supports the planning and delivery of Chegg's key strategic and operational initiatives. We partner closely with business, product, engineering, marketing, finance and operations leadership to ensure alignment from strategy to delivery. Through planning, coordination, and collaborative communication, we help teams stay focused on our mission - helping our students thrive in the most challenging and rewarding times of their lives.

Responsibilities:

  • Drive objective/program team(s) through the Product Development Lifecycle (PDLC) by facilitating strategic scoping and exploration, discovery, planning and execution across a highly cross-functional group of stakeholders

  • Enhances cross-functional collaboration by deeply integrating partner needs into our processes, positioning the team as the connective tissue that drives seamless and cohesive project execution

  • Oversee the planning and execution of big room planning events, ensuring all program and project activities are synchronized, aligned, and resourced.

  • Serve as a master facilitator for critical planning and execution sessions, enabling cross-functional teams to collaborate effectively and make informed decisions.

  • Drive the establishment and adherence of our operating rhythms; leverage data and insights to optimize processes to support team needs

  • Influence how we increase visibility and transparency across the organization, through our reporting and communication strategies

  • Balances program experience with an org-wide perspective to define problems, collect data, and draw conclusions that allow us to grow our practices, at scale

  • In collaboration with leadership, identify and implement new opportunities to drive greater cohesion across our Program Management team resulting in increased standardization and scalability

  • Supports the team to adjust through changing circumstances. Can understand its impact across the team and implement appropriate change management techniques, at scale

  • Leads with an analytical approach; you examine the relevant factors to determine what drives outcomes and which keystone facts or claims chart a path. You make informed decisions and generate actionable insights that align with organizational objectives

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 9+ years of program management/operations experience

  • Extensive experience with driving process improvements and frameworks in support of continuous improvement

  • Leads with agency; proactively explores new ideas and approaches to drive organizational growth and competitiveness, ensures we are staying relevant as we evolve

  • Experience working closely across a high volume of cross functional teams and managing a complex system of program dependencies

  • Proven ability to lead, inspire, and influence at all levels of the organization

  • A well-balanced leader who can roll up their sleeves and contribute to the details while also supporting the big picture

  • Experience driving mid to large-scale programs through a PDLC within a highly complex environment

  • An avid problem solver who keeps an eye on performance and goal alignment to lead team to deliver with excellence

  • A strategic thinker who builds a culture of evidence by asking questions and sharpening everyone's view of what we are doing and why.

  • A master communicator; you can communicate at all levels of an organization tailoring you communication and information based on audience

The pay range for this position is $207,834 to $385,978. The actual pay will vary based on geographic location, job requirements, professional experience, and other factors.
