Role reports to: Director, Global Hair and Scalp R&D

Location: Skillman, NJ Kenvue's corporate headquarters is currently located in Skillman NJ, but is scheduled to move to Summit, NJ in or around early 2025.

Travel %: 10

Pay: $107,000 - $149,500

What you will do

The Principal Scientist is responsible to help drive global upstream and downstream efforts for the Global Hair Care Brands within the Skin Health & Beauty Segment. They will be responsible for shaping the global technical innovation strategy, sourcing and delivering hair innovation, and collaborating with product development to maximize new product portfolio value. This creative scientist will have shape science across multiple global hair care brands that motivate consumers and experts. This role requires extensive internal and external cross-functional partnerships and collaboration with global R&D and clinical research/claims, sourcing, product development, regulatory, legal, safety, and marketing teams. A proven scientific background in medicated and non-medicated technologies and demonstrated ability as a problem-solver, strong communicator, and collaborator are key, along with the ability to bring in new ideas, work on white spaces, manage complexity, and balance risk.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive fundamental research and technology reviews to deliver compelling scientific insights across multiple hair-care brands and categories based on internal and external consumer trends and science and deliver relevant projects into the innovation pipeline.
  • Leading global and cross-functional partner alignment on research and development strategy including supply chain, safety, regulatory, legal, patenting, claims, product development and marketing to deliver on consumers' short- and long-term innovation requirements.
  • Ensuring robust claim support design and patent strategy for platform technologies.
  • Acting as a technical subject matter expert to identify, evaluate, and validate technologies for new product development concepts, external innovation collaborations, and business development opportunities.
  • Driving translating scientific insights into consumer-relevant benefits to elevate scientific communications internally and externally.


What we are looking for

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, Pharmacy
  • 5 years of related experience required
  • Experience with formulated products is required.
  • Cosmetics, OTC, or pharmaceutical experience is required.
  • An excellent technical foundation of formulated products, including emulsions, surfactants, suspensions, and structured liquids, and an understanding of material chemistry and process equipment is required.
  • Experience translating science to actionable claims and communications is required.
  • Experience in end-to-end product development, including design, development, and deployment through tech transfer, is preferred.
  • Fluent written and oral English communication skills are required.
  • Familiarity with cGMP and other regulatory requirements is preferred.
