Best Buddies is the largest organization dedicated to ending the social, physical and economic isolation of the 200 million people worldwide with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Our programs empower people with IDD to form meaningful friendships with their peers, secure jobs, improve communication and advocacy skills, and live independently, while also offering support for their families.

Position Overview: The Program Supervisor supervises Program Managers to ensure the success of local programs, which also may include the direct management of programs as assigned. They are also responsible for overseeing day-to-day office logistics and providing support to the Area/State Director as needed.

Job Requirements

  • Concrete people management experience and strong talent-building and team-building skills
  • Strong project management skills - including planning, analysis, attention to detail, and problem solving skills - and willingness to multitask
  • Strong initiative, drive for results, and self-assessment skills, and ability to lead others in setting and achieving challenging goals
  • Must be dependable, lead by example and be willing/able to adapt management style to fit the situation and hold staff accountable for meeting set expectations
  • Basic presentation and facilitation skills
  • Strong written communication and editing skills
  • Basic understanding of social media and proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Must be comfortable engaging with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD)
  • Must travel, use personal cell phone, and work evenings and weekends as necessary in order to accomplish job responsibilities
  • Bachelor's degree or minimum 4 years' relevant experience
  • Access to an automobile with applicable insurance

Job Duties included, but are not limited to:

Programs
  • Oversee local Friendship and Ambassador programs, which involves matching individuals with and without IDD in friendship and empowering them to be leaders in their communities.
  • Trains and supervises Program Managers to ensure that all chapters are meeting or exceeding BBI best practices and expectations
  • Takes the lead on local training initiatives including Local Leadership Training Days, Advisor Trainings, and Ambassador Trainings
  • Ensures that programmatic goals are understood and met, and programmatic outcomes are achieved for all government and foundation contracts
  • Oversees the planning and implementation of area-wide program events, including Best Buddies Day/Month
  • Works with Program Managers to perform annual assessment of programs and create appropriate goals for improvement
  • Attends local chapter events and activities
  • Reviews and ensures timely submission of all programmatic reports and assumes responsibility for quality of all written communication produced by Program Managers
  • Directly manages programs, as necessary

Marketing/Fund Development
  • Works with State/Area Director to ensure that program participants and staff are appropriately integrated into fundraising efforts, and that grant proposals reflect realistic programmatic goals
  • Creates a strong presence for Best Buddies in the local area through public speaking, community involvement, public service announcements, special events, and other media initiatives
  • Works as a liaison between the State/Area Director and Program Managers to facilitate public relations, marketing and awareness efforts for Best Buddies through newsletters, web updates and database management
  • Ensures that Program Managers are appropriately contributing and/or organizing content and images for updates to state website and using database appropriately to communicate with participants and the community
  • Works with State/Area Director on fundraising events as directed
  • Provides information to supervisor(s) regarding potential donors/supporters encountered while conducting job duties (school administrators, teachers, parents, etc.)

Human Resources
  • Recruits and hires Program Managers, including posting positions, screening resumes, conducting interviews, and making recommendations to State/Area/Deputy Director
  • Trains, evaluates, and supervises Program Managers in assigned areas, including monitoring program expansion, conducting staff evaluations, and providing accountability, relevant feedback, and appropriate motivation
  • Works with local staff to set realistic and strategic goals, including professional development goals, and holds them accountable for meeting these goals
  • Develops performance/behavior improvement plans as needed and researches and provides professional development opportunities and tracks and records progress
  • Works to inspire and motivate local staff by demonstrating personal commitment and integrity and providing proactive training, support, and recognition

Operations
  • Collaborates with State/Area Director and/or Director & Director of Operations and Programs to ensure all daily infrastructure needs are met, including supplies, postage, IT, telecommunications, equipment and utilities
  • Maintains communication with State/Area/Deputy Director and/or Director of Operations and Programs with timely reports, quarterly goals, and other information as directed
  • Collaborates with State/Area Director on government and foundation reporting, working to ensure it is completed accurately and submitted on time
  • Approves program staff expenses and manages the office's programs budget, tracking program revenue (Leadership Conference fees) and expenses monthly
  • Uses the online reimbursement system to effectively track and manage Program Managers' reimbursement requests
  • Oversee travel logistics for Program Managers attending national events/conferences or conducting area site visits
