Research Scientist Position

The College of Social Work seeks a Research Scientist to join our team. The Research Scientist will conduct independent research in the areas of substance misuse, child wellbeing and safety in support of the Ohio START intervention in order to develop new knowledge and answer important scientific research questions. Responsibilities include developing new extramural proposals for research, publishing results in peer-reviewed journals, training and mentoring graduate and undergraduate students.

Required Qualifications:

Doctoral degree in Epidemiology, Biostatics or related area required; experience conducting research on parental substance misuse, child abuse and neglect, child safety and permanency. Significant experience (4 years) using the Statewide Automated Child Welfare Information System (SACWIS) for analysis and evaluation. Significant experience (4 years) working in R, Stata, SQL, and ArcGIS. Experience with quasi-experimental evaluation designs, interpreting data and writing and publishing articles in refereed journals; experience presenting data and papers to professional society conferences.

Desired Qualifications:

Experience with advanced statistical methods (e.g. propensity score weighting) in program evaluation. Experience working in SPSS, Stata and ArcGIS Pro. Experience designing technical reports, and translating research to practice A least 3 years' experience working with child welfare stakeholders in the state of Ohio.

Responsibilities:

Research Intervention Evaluation & Oversight

  • Develops frameworks and program evaluation protocols for the Ohio START Intervention; data consolidation and management using shared data platforms and vendor-mandated systems and technologies (e.g. Innovate Ohio Platform)
  • Work collaboratively with the Principal Investigator, Co-investigators, and Public Children Services Association of Ohio (PCSAO) to conduct research, examine evaluation/research innovations and use findings to inform ongoing continuous improvement.
  • Lead design, analysis, and dissemination of research efforts of the Ohio START intervention, including but not limited to quality assurance and data harmonization across all projects, quasi-experimental techniques, and implementation fidelity studies.
  • Write journal articles, briefs, and impact reports and author/conduct presentations to disseminate evidence-based practices and knowledge innovations. Dissemination efforts will include peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, book chapters, technical reports, and others as needed.

Research Collaboration / Resource Acquisition

  • Write grant applications and proposals for funding of programming and new research interventions
  • Work collaboratively with Training and Technical Assistance team (Children and Family Futures) to ensure state and county certification standards are met
  • Maintain partnerships with National START Model affiliates across 8 States
  • Work collaboratively with outside evaluation partners at Ohio University and Kaye Implementation & Evaluation to limit duplication of work

Management/Leadership

  • Manage and lead day-to-day Ohio START operations to ensure quality, facilitate innovation and impact, and meet grant accountabilities
  • Maintain and expand Ohio START partnerships and programming across the state of Ohio,
  • Supervise and mentor Ohio START students, interns, and affiliate partners on Statewide Automated Child Welfare Information Systems (SACWIS)
  • Supervise and mentor Ohio START students, interns and affiliate partners on SQL, R, SPSS and Stata programming languages

Administrative/Service

  • Oversee and manage operations for Ohio START participation in cross-site evaluation: Replication of Recovery and Reunification Interventions for Families-Impact Study (R3-Impact)
  • Complete other duties as assigned
