Reporting to the Associate Dean for Health Sciences, the Research Support Librarian (Nursing) will provide comprehensive research support and instruction services to faculty, researchers, staff, students, and trainees in the Tulane University Program of Nursing. Working with the Health Sciences team, the incumbent will develop and implement services in support of this new program, including instruction sessions. This role includes delivering virtual and in-person consultations, developing collaborative partnerships, and engaging in continuous learning to stay abreast of new trends in scholarly communication and evidence synthesis. Additionally, the librarian will support publication efforts, recommend relevant software and tools, and participate in evidence synthesis and research support efforts across the Downtown Health Sciences Campus. Key Responsibilities:

Function: Research Support

  • Provide virtual and/or in-person research consultations to faculty, researchers, staff, students, and residents.
  • Develop collaborative partnerships with researchers, faculty, and students through consultations and participation as a collaborator on evidence syntheses, sponsored research, and other projects.
  • Engage in continuous learning and improvement to maintain best practices, innovate new methods, and stay alert to new and emerging trends in scholarly communication and evidence synthesis.
  • Provide publication support, including bibliometric analysis and analyzing research impact.
  • Recommend software and tools to support researchers in the publication lifecycle.
  • Participate in evidence synthesis efforts across the Downtown Health Sciences Campus.
  • Provide appropriate collection support for the Program of Nursing.

Function: Instruction

  • Instruct library users on effective access and use of health science information resources through collaborative teaching/lectures with faculty, hands-on sessions, tutorials, webinars, online self-paced tutorials, or other instructional materials.
  • Develop courses and/or curriculum-based instruction programs & workshops in information resources for Nursing students in collaboration with department/program faculty.
  • Develop courses or curriculum-based instruction programs & workshops in information resources for other departments and programs, in collaboration with department/program faculty and colleagues at the Matas Library.

Function: Scholarly Engagement Services

  • Connect with research and departmental faculty/researchers to establish ongoing communication by developing a working, interactive, and dynamic relationship.
  • Conduct resource and service needs assessments periodically for departments and programs.
  • Maintain regular communication and awareness of evolving community needs.
  • Provide regular reporting on outreach, research support, and liaison activities.

ALL LIBRARIANS AT MATAS LIBRARY ARE GENERALLY EXPECTED TO:

  • Provide the best possible service to all library users in a timely, thorough, and courteous manner.
  • Employ creative approaches in the provision of services and use of resources utilizing appropriate technology and information formats.
  • Seek on their own, and with fellow librarians/staff, to develop their professional knowledge and increase their professional skills.
  • Work together (among librarians and support staff) to achieve the highest potential for service and innovation.
  • Share (among librarians and support staff) expertise in the use of information resources in both traditional and nontraditional formats.
  • Contribute professionally by disseminating original works through publications, presentations at conferences, drafting grant proposals, participating in panels or roundtables, etc.
  • Participate in on-campus and professional groups, committees, and organizations.

Qualifications:
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:1.  ALA-accredited MLS or equivalent graduate degree (recent and upcoming graduates are encouraged to apply)2.  Excellent presentation and instruction skills with demonstrated written and oral communication skills3.  Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of faculty, staff, and students across the University and community at large4.  Demonstrated proficiency in the use of relevant information technologies, information management tools, and analytical and searching techniques. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES: 1.  A strong commitment to team collaboration and a proactive approach to problem-solving, with the flexibility to adapt to new challenges and opportunities.2.  Comfort with everyday digital platforms (email, chat, and online meeting and presentation software particularly) with a focus on learning and leveraging technologies to improve library services and support.3.  Ability to deliver engaging and effective instruction, tailored to the needs of a diverse academic community.4.  Excellent written and oral communication skills, ensuring clear, effective, and respectful interactions with all stakeholders. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  1.  Experience or education in Nursing, Allied Health, or Health Sciences2.  Background in instruction and teaching3.  Demonstrated experience in the use of health sciences information resources, clinical resources & tools including NLM/NCBI resources to track evidence. Experience with emerging information technology hardware and software 4.  Any certification/documentation in advanced or specialized user service training, reflecting a commitment to ongoing professional development and service excellence. ALL LIBRARIANS AT THE MATAS LIBRARY ARE GENERALLY EXPECTED TO:1.  Provide the best possible service to all library users in a timely, thorough, and courteous manner.2.  Employ creative approaches in the provision of services and use of resources utilizing appropriate technology and information formats to enhance the user experience.3.  Continuously seek to develop professional knowledge and increase professional skills, both individually and in collaboration with fellow librarians and staff.4.  Work together as a cohesive team (among librarians and support staff) to achieve the highest potential for service and innovation.5.  Share expertise in the use of information resources in both traditional and nontraditional formats, fostering a culture of knowledge-sharing and mutual support.6.  Contribute professionally by disseminating original works through publications, presentations at conferences, drafting grant proposals, participating in panels or roundtables, etc., demonstrating a commitment to advancing the field. 7.  Participate actively in on-campus and professional groups, committees, and organizations, contributing to the broader academic and professional community.SPECIAL REQUIRED ABILITY FOR INCUMBENTS WHO HAVE CONTACT OR EXPOSURE TO ANIMALS OR ANIMAL TISSUES:Ability to complete and pass successfully the required occupational health screening referenced in the University's Animal Handler Health Surveillance Program on an annual basis. REQUIRED BACKGROUND CHECK, PHYSICAL, AND DRUG SCREENING FOR INCUMBENTS WHO HAVE CONTACT OR EXPOSURE TO ANIMALS OR ANIMAL TISSUES:

Selected candidates must complete and pass a background check and an occupational health screening as a condition of employment.  For identified jobs, a drug screening will also be required. The background investigation required occupational health screening, and any required drug screening will be conducted after a conditional employment offer has been extended.
