The primary purpose of this position is to facilitate research into the neural circuitry of sound processing. This position will be responsible for providing technical support to other members of the research group as well as conducting independent studies when applicable. They will also be responsible for a number of important aspects of our research program such as performing surgeries to prepare mice for experiments, conducting behavioral/physiological experiments, utilizing microscopy for histological experiments, and general lab managerial and maintenance responsibilities.

Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.

Practical experience in animal studies. Demonstrated ability to learn new techniques with instructions. Computer skills involving MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. with the ability to learn new programs. Interpersonal skills including tact, diplomacy, and flexibility with the ability and experience to work in a team framework in conjunction with principles of community with staff, faculty, and students. Ability to participate and contribute to discussions regarding procedures and goals of the laboratory. Must have some experience in a laboratory setting.

Prefer candidates with experience in programming. Candidates who are willing to fill this position to prepare for an academic career are preferred.

Must be willing to work occasional evenings and weekends as required to keep steady workflow and meet deadlines. Must be able and willing to work with rodents and biohazardous materials. Must have the ability to perform surgeries, move 20lbs and remain in place for up to 2 hours at a time, with or without accommodation.
