As an Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist II, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the well-being of our organization and its employees. Your responsibilities will include managing and conducting complex and sensitive multidisciplinary inspections, studies, and investigations to prevent or eliminate environmental and sanitation health hazards. Depending on your assignment, you may regulate water programs, land use, solid/hazardous waste, environmental control, vector control, sewage systems, and food facilities1.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in implementing and improving environmental impacts for existing operations and new projects.
  • Support internal and external audits, EHS tours, inspections, and assessments, including internal auditing for ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
  • Provide technical expertise and interpretations related to legal, regulatory, and Lear EHS directives, including sampling and reporting requirements.
  • Drive EHS corrective actions, preventive actions, and suggestion activities to ensure timely completion of desired outcomes.
  • Collect, analyze, and assess trend data to identify issues and opportunities in the EHS arena.
  • Develop and deliver training on EHS issues to relevant employees.
  • Conduct two Leadership Safety Tours per week, provide supervisor coaching, and update boards and trackers.
  • Champion the EHS 8D process and board.
  • Manage contractors, ensuring compliance with safety and sanitation laws.
  • Attend daily morning production meetings and submit reports.
  • Ensure closure of open items such as Contained Hazards, Leadership Safety Tours, and EHS internal audit action items.
  • Participate in managing the plant's health programs, including accident/incident investigations.
  • Maintain records of environmental health and safety inspections, incidents, and training activities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and implement safety improvements and best practices.
  • Assist in developing and implementing emergency response plans and procedures.
Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local legal and regulatory requirements (OSHA, EPA, DOT) in either OH&S or Environment, with practical understanding of implementation requirements.
  • Minimum associate degree or equivalent experience in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field. Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 1-2 years of experience in a manufacturing setting, preferably with knowledge of automated machining and ergonomics. Familiarity with ISO 14001-45001 standards is a plus.
  • OSHA 10 certification required1.
