Hiring Range: This position's hiring range is anticipated to be $18.00 per hour to $18.75 per hour, depending on experience, plus great benefits!

Schedule: Full-time role, 5 days/week - exact days to be determined.

Manager interviews will begin the week of December 9th (recruiter phone screens will occur prior to a manager interview).

Position Summary:Best Friends Animal Sanctuary has approximately 25,000 - 30,000 annual visitors, all coming through the Welcome Center as their first stop to enter the world of Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. The Sanctuary Ambassador is the first point of contact, and they play an integral role in welcoming our visitors and discussing with them the options at hand for a glimpse into our life-saving work. They are informed and up to date on all Sanctuary happenings, Best Friends' mission, and any new developments on the horizon. The Sanctuary Ambassador is responsible for providing our visitors with a quality experience through informative and engaging tours of the Sanctuary at the highest level, which are meant to be informative, interactive, and entertaining. The Ambassador understands without a doubt the link between our culture and mission and the important role it plays in helping inspire and influence our visitors to join us in our life-saving work to Save Them All.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Greet all Best Friends visitors in a warm and inviting manner, both in the Welcome Center and across the Sanctuary.
  • Conduct scripted tours of the Sanctuary as well as specialized mini-tours and/or talks pertaining to Best Friends and our surroundings.
  • Invite and encourage all visitors to become members and donors of Best Friends Animal Society.
  • Engage visitors in the Welcome Center reception area and provide accurate information and direction as it pertains to their requests.
  • Manage all duties associated with the reception at the Welcome Center, including but not limited to, answering phone calls, scheduling tours, handling relinquishment of animals, receiving donations. Work with Welcome Center technology and contacting and coordinating with other departments across the Sanctuary.
  • Participate in local and regional events to increase visitation to the Sanctuary, as requested.
  • Provide transportation services for special events at the Sanctuary, such as the annual blessing, Welcome Week, Discovery Weekend, and pre-or post-conference Sanctuary visits, if needed.
  • Complete daily Welcome Center operational duties and other assigned tasks as requested, including animal care and adoptions.
  • Contribute to the achievement of departmental goals.
  • Cross-training and provide coverage in other Welcome Center departments, as needed.
  • Attend training courses and meetings as requested.
  • Help with animal care.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Skills and Experience:
  • Genuine passion for the mission of Best Friends Animal Society.
  • Act as an Ambassador for Best Friends, including professionally advocate Best Friends' position on issues.
  • Ability to retain and relay large amounts of information.
  • Ability to drive a 14-passenger van safely through varied weather and road conditions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, positive attitude, a team player, personable, professional, and able to get along with people from different backgrounds.
  • Bilingual or multi-lingual skills preferred but not required.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with well-developed organization skills to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands; with accurate, appropriate, clear, and concise written and verbal communication skills; and strong listening skills.
  • Resourceful, get-it-done attitude; ability to adapt to new processes; detail-oriented, problem-solving, seeking answers independently and enthusiastically; the flexibility to persist until department goals are achieved.
  • Self-motivated to keep informed of facts about Best Friends news, events, and informational material to accurately relay them to visitors.
  • Ability to work with, leash, kennel, walk, and handle all cats and dogs, including those with health and/or behavior conditions/concerns; basic ability to identify and speak to medical and behavioral characteristics of dogs and cats.
  • Proficient computer skills are a must. Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Google Docs are preferred.
Physical Requirements:
  • Lift up to 40 pounds, stand and sit for extended periods of time, and perform daily strenuous activity including, but not limited to lifting, carrying, reaching, stooping, squatting, cleaning, and bending.
  • Work at a computer or drive a car for extended periods of time with repetitive typing, arm, and hand motion.
  • Work indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions including extreme heat and cold.
  • Repetitive bending, twisting and stepping into and out of the passenger van.
  • Ability to work in close proximity to coworkers behind the reception desk.
  • Ability to see clearly, read road signs and safely view changes in terrain.
  • Must be able to spend extended periods of time in close contact with all types of animals in all weather conditions. Exposure to dogs, cats and other animals of all sizes, temperaments, and medical status.
  • Daily hours and days of the week may vary according to the needs of the department schedule; position includes weekends, and holiday work.
  • Must have a valid driver's license for at least 3 years, ability to qualify to be added to Best Friends insurance, ability to travel and/or drive on behalf of Best Friends, including overnight stays, when needed.
