We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Accountant to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of financial concepts and accounting principles, with a focus on regulatory compliance and reporting. This role will involve overseeing financial operations, preparing reports, and ensuring adherence to GAAP and Statutory accounting. The Senior Accountant will play a crucial role in maintaining the integrity of financial data and supporting strategic decision-making within the organization.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and review financial statements for accuracy.
- Variance analysis to explain large fluctuations in line items.
- Prepare and post assigned journal entries to the accounting general ledger.
- Prepare schedules to reconcile the company's Balance Sheet accounts.
- Assist in reviewing reconciliations and journal entries prepared by accounting staff.
- Calculate the company's reinsurance quota share balance each month and prepare billings to the reinsurers
- Calculate accruals, salary allocation, amortize prepaid expenses and determine non-admitted balances.
- Regulatory reporting (which includes but not limited to data calls from regulatory agencies, ISO premiums, premium tax returns, California Marketing System Survey).
- Assist in the preparation and completion of the quarterly and annual statutory financial statements.
- Assist in responding to external auditor's request for information/data.
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
- Knowledge of GAAP and exposure to statutory accounting concepts.
- Strong understanding of financial concepts, including budgeting and account reconciliation.
- Excellent financial report writing skills with attention to detail.
- Knowledge of governmental accounting practices and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, for collaboration across departments.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with Sage Intact financial software.
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel such as using pivot tables and vlookup.
- Meticulous and detailed oriented
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Able to manage multiple tasks and prioritize workload.
- Understanding of SQL to retrieve data from Company's data warehouse.
- Exposure to 1099 reporting.
- Prior insurance experience preferred.
- CPA preferred.
- SAGE experience strongly desired.
