Caterpillar's Resource Industries Operations and Products (RIOP) Division is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Senior Performance/Validation Engineer for Electric Rope shovel (ERS). The role involves collaborating with multifunctional teams to define technical and performance requirements as well as validation plans. The individual selected for this position will serve as a technical expert for ERS machine and will be a significant contributor to the development of Electrical Rope Shovels.

What you will do:

  • Establishing technical and performance requirements and specifications for new products and features, including failsafe strategy.
  • Engaging with internal and external partners to define and gain acceptance for key requirements and specifications.
  • Communicating requirements to component, system, and software teams.
  • Collaborating with the Virtual Product Development (VPD) team to develop and deploy processes, tools, and technologies for performance simulations and analysis.
  • Using VPD tools to conduct concept feasibility analysis/testing and recommend the optimal path for the product
  • Developing validation test plans to confirm performance requirements are achieved.
  • Serving as a liaison between product group and customer for field validation.
  • Taking responsibility for overall performance acceptance criteria for the product.
  • Overseeing the ERS Application Profile and Composite Workcycle.
  • Staying up to date on competitor product offerings and driving continuous improvement for the product.
What Skills you will have:

Technical Excellence: Strong technical leadership skills with extensive experience in the performance and application of mining machines. Extensive understanding of complex engineering concepts and applications, electro-hydraulic system design and/or test, and control theory.

Level Working Knowledge:

• Provides effective technical solutions to routine functional challenges via sound technical competence, effectively examining implications of events and issues.

• Effectively performs the technical job aspects, continuously building knowledge and keeping up to date on technical and procedural job components.

• Knowledge of Electric Rope Shovels, Draglines or other mining equipment including applications, configurations, and systems.

• Applies technical operating and project standards based on achieving excellence in delivered products, technologies, and services.

• Applies current procedures and technologies to help resolve technical issues on ERS and DGL products

• Helps others solve technical or procedural problems or issues.

Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of performance problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.

Level Extensive Experience:

• Seeks discrepancies and inconsistencies in available information; explains variances.

• Organizes and prioritizes the sequence of steps to be taken to remedy the situation.

Effective Communications: Strong communication, leadership, project management, and business management skills. Direct work with internal process partners, suppliers, customers, and dealers requires the incumbent to demonstrate skill in negotiation, building consensus, and achieving compromise.

Process Management: Knowledge of business process improvement tools and techniques; ability to understand, monitor, update, control, or enhance existing business or work processes.

Level Extensive Experience:

• Helps others learn the tools and techniques for process value analysis.

• Carries out process evaluation, diagnosis, and optimization.

• Demonstrates a thorough understanding of a major process flow, its components, and issues.

• Synchronizes the efforts of, and resource requirements for, several teams within a process.

• Makes the business case for new processes, including their cost-benefit ratios.

• Possesses knowledge of tools and techniques for designing and implementing new processes.

Top candidates will also have:

Prior experience in product support, Virtual Product Development, and machine validation.

Project Management: Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives.

Level Working Knowledge:

• Provides input for Gantt charts, PMO plans or their equivalent to track project progress and status.

• Under guidance, plans and estimates projects.

• Assists in detailed project plans including cost, schedule, and resource requirements.

• Obtains information from stakeholders as appropriate during all aspects of a project.

• Produces project status reports.

Engineering Tools: Knowledge of tools and techniques of specialized engineering programs; ability to produce, analyze, simulate, and test design concepts using FEA and CFD programs as well as tools like DYNASTY, C-Link, Validation Readiness Tool, Siemens Step 7.

Education Requirement: Bachelor's degree in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum.

The primary location for this position is Tucson, AZ.
