Job Summary / Basic Function:

Job Summary:The Simulation Specialist supports nursing faculty, student learning, and recruitment and retention efforts to promote student success. Responsibilities include but are not limited to facilitating faculty, student, and laboratory staff orientation to facilities, assisting faculty with set-up of simulation experiences and coordinating simulation rooms, equipment, clinical simulation laboratory experiences and student lab schedules, as well as recommending budget items required to implement simulation laboratory instruction. The Simulation Specialist works with and is supervised by the Clinical Coordinator and does not independently teach or evaluate students.
Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Support and abide by all rules, regulations, and guidelines of the nursing program, LIT, and serve as an appropriate role model for students and employees at all times
  • Provide excellent service on behalf of LIT and the nursing program by responding to all inquiries from students, faculty, staff, administration, and external partners
  • Assists in the oversight of the day-to-day operations and services of simulation labs to increase student usage
  • Coordinate and maintain simulation and laboratory schedule
  • Troubleshoot technical difficulties in simulation labs
  • Assist with simulation and laboratory orientation and training of the part-time supplemental instruction leaders, tutors, and students related to simulation lab equipment, procedures, and protocols.
  • Maintain general organization and cleanliness of simulation labs and facilitate supply orders as needed
  • Participate in special events sponsored by the nursing program and college
  • Facilitate laboratory and simulation experiences including evaluation of the facility and experience and provide feedback/recommendations for improvement.
  • Establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with faculty, students, and guests in simulation labs.
  • Collect student feedback, surveys, focus groups, and other data analyses.

  • Work within the mission, vision, goals, and philosophical framework of LIT and the nursing program
  • Effective collaboration with the Nursing Program Association, Department of Allied Health & Sciences as well as the governing organization and associated committees

  • Participate in Nursing Program Association meetings, professional development, recruitment initiatives, and committees necessary to further development and growth of simulation in the nursing program
  • Maintain knowledge of the Texas Nursing Practice Act rules and regulations
  • Treat students and faculty with dignity, respect, and provide timely responses to inquiries
  • Maintain safety principles in labs and simulation environments
  • Follow specific guidelines for simulation in accordance with nursing program policy and procedure
  • Provides coaching for students during open lab and practice sessions
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Clinical Coordinator or Program Director for Nursing.

Physical Requirements:The position requires the ability to: remain in a stationary position for most of the time; occasionally move about inside an office, classroom or lab setting to access documents, equipment, etc.; constantly operate a computer and other laboratory equipment; the ability to communicate information and ideas so that others will understand.Work Environment:The work environment consists of classroom, laboratory, office, and simulation settings. Travel out of town may be required to facilitate simulations at distance sites. Simulation experiences are scheduled to coincide with the usual work environment of nurses and may include day or evening hours.Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current license or privilege to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Texas
  • Associate in nursing at minimum
  • Maintains current knowledge, clinical expertise, and safety in nursing and clinical skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities required for organizing and facilitating implementation of simulations
  • Baccalaureate degree in nursing
  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) preferred
  • One (1) year of experience working in higher education learning support services setting, such as working with students, providing one-on-one assistance, coaching, or tutoring
  • Customer service experience
Salary:

47,000-52,000
