About the Position:

SMU Libraries in Dallas, TX seeks an innovative and enthusiastic librarian to lead the vision and strategic direction for Access and Resource Sharing services. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of user-focused library services at a prestigious private university committed to academic excellence and equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility (EDIA). As the Director of Access and Resource Sharing Services, you will oversee circulation and interlibrary loan services at SMU Libraries, chair a cross-library Access Services Team to ensure a seamless patron experience, and supervise a talented team of professionals. Additionally, you will serve as the Assistant Director of Fondren Library, reporting to the Associate Dean of Academic Initiatives to help manage SMU's main academic hub.

Essential Functions:

  • Leads the system-wide Access Services Team, coordinating and promoting the delivery of circulation, course reserves, and stacks management across all libraries.
  • Ensures consistent, high-quality customer service, effective policies and procedures, and seamless resource delivery.
  • Uses analytics to evaluate and improve services while identifying and addressing service gaps.
  • Directs and oversees interlibrary loan and document delivery services across libraries, collaborating with systems and IT staff to manage ILLiad software effectively.
  • Supervises Fondren Library's circulation manager, interlibrary loan team, and stacks manager. Establishes goals and priorities, conducts annual evaluations, and fosters the professional growth of library staff.
  • Serves as the Assistant Director of Fondren Library, providing support to the Director as needed.
  • Streamlines and standardizes student worker policies and procedures across SMU Libraries, as needed.
  • Represents Access Services on the Academic Initiatives Steering Committee, sharing strategic goals, proposing projects, creating reports, and making recommendations to support decision-making.
  • Engages in ongoing professional development through publishing, presentations, or leadership roles in professional organizations.
  • Serves on or chairs committees within the library, the university, and professional organizations, as appropriate.


Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Required Qualifications:

A master's degree in library science from an ALA-accredited program or an equivalent credential.

At least 5 years of experience in public services within an academic or public library.

A minimum of 1 year of supervisory experience.

Experience with circulation or interlibrary loan services.

Proven leadership skills.

A demonstrated commitment to scholarship and service in librarianship, as evidenced by scholarly publications, conference presentations, or professional committee service at the local, regional, or national level.

Experience in or demonstrated commitment to inclusive excellence.
Preferred Qualifications:

Alma certification or an equivalent qualification.

Knowledge of ILLiad software.

Proficiency with the circulation module of an integrated library system, such as... Alma, Ex Libris, SirsiDynix, Polaris etc...

Ability to analyze and evaluate software applications effectively.

Proven experience in delivering high-quality customer service.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Experience mentoring staff in their professional development.
