Job Summary
JOB SUMMARY: Disassemble, clean, disinfect/sterilize, decontaminate surgical instruments and other equipment used in the Operating Rooms, Maternity, and throughout the hospital; perform routine chemical and biological testing of sterilization equipment. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Perform the disassembly, cleaning, disinfection, decontamination, and sterilization of surgical instrumentation and other equipment according to established procedures. 2. Prioritize kit/instrument cleaning and disinfection/decontamination based on assessment of instrument requirements for the O.R. schedule. 3. Respond effectively to emergency case requirements and other immediate needs of the surgical team and other departments. 4. Assess supplies for adequate levels required for the operation of equip- ment. 5. Properly load and operate all decontamination and sterilization equipment, which includes sonic cleaner, cart washer, decontaminators, and Steris System One Processors, and anyother processing equipment. 6. Perform chemical and biological monitoring of Steris System One Processors and other processing equipment according to established procedures. 7. Leak test, evaluate, clean/disinfect, re-test, and process various flexible Endoscopes. 8. Function independently in the absence of the Manager or Supervisor. 9. Effectively utilize a variety of computerized support systems. 10. Assist in the training of new employees under the direction of the Manager and Supervisor. 11. Other related duties as assigned. PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT: Satisfactory physical environment with distraction from machine or related noise, or exposure to unpleasant elements such as chemical fumes, dust, or temperature variations. Duties involve cleaning with exposure to soil, odors, dust, blood, body fluids, or other unpleasant elements.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma or equivalent required. Effective written and verbal communications skills necessary. Previous Central Supply experience preferred.
