The Student Support Services Peer Tutor reports directly to the TRiO/Student Support Services Manager. This position has primary responsibility for individually tutoring students in the SSS program on subject area(s) in which the tutor has a good depth of knowledge and expertise. Employment is for up to 20 hours per week.
Responsibilities
Provide high-quality tutoring sessions, using strategies from experience and from WCC training sessions.
Attend other workshops or activities designed to acquaint the tutor with this particular population of students and their needs
Work with the SSS Tutor Coordinator in setting up tutoring schedules for individual tutees. Communicate with the tutee, exchange information and set a meeting schedule.
Provide information to the SSS Tutor Coordinator regarding scheduling, phone and other contact information to facilitate communications.
Report information about the tutoring sessions, such as student names, frequency, absences, lateness, etc., as requested by the Tutor Coordinator.
Participate in the evaluation process to gather feedback from the students.
Other duties as assigned by the Manager for TRiO/Student Support Services.
Minimum Qualifications
A Waubonsee student enrolled in at least one credit.
Have a minimum GPA of 2.5 and minimum GPA of 3.0 or above in area tutoring.
Be in good standing with Student Conduct.
Be making Satisfactory Academic Progress.
Preferred Qualifications:
Good communication skills.
Strong organizational skills and detail orientation.
Comfortable working with students individually and in a group setting.
Past work experience with a diverse student population.
Basic computer skills.
